Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this non-running 1948 garage stored Chevrolet Fleetline 4 Door Sedan, in very good cosmetic and structural condition. This is the last year of the original Fleetline design and is a perfect candidate for restoration or hotrodding. With only 50, 236 miles, it has been well cared for. Years of storage has caused it to stop running and has caused some minor rusting and cracking, but overall this is a terrific investment for a collector, restorer or resalerr, as the vehicle was apparently running before it was stored for 20 years. This car is a virtual time capsule, and has collectible parts such as a rear window fan. It has the 216 CID inline 6 "Blue Flame" engine, which produces 90 hp at 3300 rpm. A Fleetline of this vintage could easily exceed 80 miles per hour without overdrive. The transmission is a manual synchromesh 3 speed, with vacuum- assisted shift, in which the "three-on-the-tree" shifter was able to be moved between gears by the slightest pressure on the lever. Knowledgeable people who have looked at it say the motor has not seized. Third gear in this model is direct, meaning the input and output are equal speeds. Connection to the third member rear-end was via an enclosed "torque tube" driveshaft. Hydraulic brakes with all-wheel drums. Lever type shock absorbers. The windshield is flat-glass type with vacuum actuated wipers. One small crack on windshield, one small crack in driver side window. There are intermittent rust spots on chrome and fenders, but overall the exterior is very straight. Tires have lost air but original hubcaps in place. The exterior has smooth curves, with chrome and stainless trim. There is some minor rusting throughout and notable peeling on the right fender, but is otherwise in fine condition. The interior has upholstered teal vinyl in very good condition, leather seats in good to very good condition and a painted metal dash with some cracking. Original mono vacuum tube radio,ad other dash instruments, plus an after factory blinker system attachment. This car is an ideal investment as restored Fleetlines sell for between $15- and $20,000. The original owner and second registered owner were in the same family. The title is clear, buyer will receive bill of sale and accompanying documentation to acquire title. Removal and transport the responsibility of buyer. The vehicle is located in San Antonio, Texas. $200 deposit within 48 hours of auction. Must receive full payment within one week of the auction. Please feel free to ask any questions. I am no expert, but if there is a way to find the answer, I will do my best to respond asap. Sold by a registered nonprofit organization. Good luck!On Jul-27-10 at 07:47:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Originally listed as having leather seats, these seats may be vinyl, but we cannot be sure. It is not torn so I can't check the fibers. It is in fine condition.
