Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1970 firebird 400. I purchased the car from the orignal owners about two months ago out of their garage in which it had been sitting since 1980. The car is in excellent original condition, which is very difficult to find these days. It has it's original 400 engine which has never been out of the car and runs excellent, very smooth with plenty of power. The original trans is still in the car which has also never been rebuilt and shifts perfect. The paint is the original keylime green, however the owner was a school teacher and she let the high school vocational class repaint it as a class project in the late 70's. They did a good job considering it's still on the car 30+ years later and it's still shiney, however it has gotten a few minor dings and knicks since, but it has no maor damage anywhere. The firebird has been garaged it's entire life and is therefore rust free including the floorpans which are spotless. The interior is all original and near perfct. The dash is still soft and has no cracks anywhere, as well as the door panels. The guages all work and are very clear with no hazing, including all warning lights. The seats are perfect with no seam separation or fading. The original stereo sound just like it did in 1970, works like it is supposed to, and all of the factory speakers are still good. All lights and indicators are working like they are supposed to. The a/c still blows cold, which is pretty amazing in itself considering in didn't even have to be recharged after being stored since 1980. The windows still roll up and down efforlessly with no odd noises. All doors including trunk and hood close tight with no sagging. The front bumper has a few minor stress cracks in the paint,on the top of it from being leaned on, I tried to get pictures but they were to small to show up. Since I have owned it I have done the following to make it a dependable car. I installed a new gear driven high torque starter, installed a factory rebuilt four barrell factory type quadrajet carburetor and intake which work excellent. I have done a complete tune-up. I installed an electric fuel pump at the tank because it would occasianally vapor lock in 100+ degree weather if you sat idling in traffic, if you live in cooler climate I am sure you would not need it. I dropped the fuel tank and cleaned it, when doing so I damaged the fuel sending unit, it still works fine, but it will need a new one to make the fuel guage work properly. I installed a new set of 60,00 mile tires. All of the factory parts I have removed will be included with the car. Due to the engine upgrade to a 400 in the car it came with all of the same heavy duty options that were found in a formula, including the four core radiator and 12 bolt rear end which it still retains. The car dirves excellent, it tracks straight, doesn't pull and has no rattles from the interior or anywhere else. I have original title to the car issued on 5/11/70, the original tax receipt showing a purchase price of $3821.39, the original protect-o-plate, the dealer "Thank You" card and key fob, all manuals, and all maintenance records up to 1980 when it was put in storage which verify the mileage. The car was bought new in San Marcos, Texas and lived in Waco, TX it's entire life. This is one of the nicest non restored muscle cars that you will ever find. I am sure I left something out so feel free to ask any questions. You are welcom to come and inspect the car, and I will deliver it to any local shipper. It also has all of the original glass with no chips, invluding the windshield with built in antennae. On Jul-21-10 at 08:54:16 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added pics to the link of the inside of the trunk as requested, if you need any more pics please let me know specific items. ThanksOn Jul-25-10 at 12:24:44 PDT, seller added the following information: Block number stamped on upper passenger side of block is 0480782 Body trim tag is as follows: ST 70 22387 NOR 726563 TR 218 43 43 04b This means the car was optioned from the factory exactly as you see itOn Jul-25-10 at 16:27:31 PDT, seller added the following information: I have also installed a new four core factory type radiator, it is a brass/copper radiator, it is the best one I could find and cost around $500. The original four core radiator is included, it does not leak, however it would need to be cleaned if you wanted to re-install it.On Jul-26-10 at 19:07:21 PDT, seller added the following information: I had a few questions about the red in the trunk around the wheel wells, it is the factory red oxide primer, not rust. You will not find a single rust bubble in the paint on this car anywhere.
