Vehicle Detail

My truck has the original flathead 6 cylinder 231ci engine, 4 speed transmission (unsynchronized and requires double clutching) and has a strong solid clutch. I was told the previous owner switched out a 3 speed for the 4 speed which throws the speedometer off. These trucks came with a 411 rear end so first gear will pull a locomotive but wont get you over 5mph. It was good for going in a field and walking beside it while loading it with sweet Iowa corn, but I dont live in Iowa and dont grow corn. Top speed is about 56 mph unless you have a good wind at your back and are going downhill. It has the standard drum brakes and original master cylinder...brakes work ok, but I always give a lot of room for stops and avoid getting into emergency braking situations. The emergency brake does work which I am often reminded of when I forget to release it after leaving the house and I wonder why it feels like it has no power. Remember this is a 64 year old antique truck! Bodywork was done in 2002 and was painted with PPG basecoat paint. I replaced the bed with Ash instead of Oak for the look of the wood and have Bruce Horkeys stainless runners with hidden rivets holding down the boards. Chrome wheels and the tires have under 1500 miles and look new. I added a Holley 2 bbl carb on an adapter plate from Stovebolt 6 Chevys to get the automatic choke and what I hoped would be a little more horsepower. It always starts, warms up without hesitation and idles well. Has an aluminumized exhaust with a glass pack. I converted the electrical to a negative ground with a 60 amp alternator, added Halogen headlights and a LED rail light under the rear tailgate. It still has the original taillights as well but I haven't hooked up the breaklights to the LED rail yet. ( a nice Saturday project) In the interior, I replaced all the guages with SW (Stewart Warner) in the existing spaces. Temp, Oil Pressure and Gas all work fine and the lights in the dash do work. Instead of a floor start, I have a push button next to the on/off key. Seating is covered in a gray rolled type vinyl and matches the door panels. I have speakers in the kickpanels and it is wired for a radio into the glove box but no radio. I have driven it a little over 2500 miles since I purchased it I am the 4th owner of this truck which was originally a farm truck from Iowa. I purchased it in 2001 essentially in unrestored condition. This is a perfect vehicle for someone who enjoys the hobby of working on an old vehicle, improving and customizing little things, or going full tilt as ther is alway something you can add, upgrade or change. Or if you want, simply using it for Home Depot runs on the weekend or getting a haircut in a unique vehicle that always turns head and gets thumbs up every time you drive it. I have shown it several times and it has gotten a top 15 or top 25 most of the time in smaller shows as it falls in a class often by itself as most trucks of this age are rodded out with big block engines and go in another class. As my other antique is always garaged, this truck stays outside and is starting to show wear. Left front fender has some bondo cracking where the fender support brace is and some bubbling on a headlight. A weld near the roof rail could use some work and either painting, rechroming the front bumper of just removing it all together can be done as well as repainting the running boards. The engine has not been rebuilt, and blows a little smoke under load. I put a quart on heavyweight oil in about every 4-5 tanks of gas (yearly) depending on what I am using it for. I estimate that it gets about 10-12 miles per gallon. It has good oil pressure. Only repair to the engine was a new waterpump 2 years ago. I replaced the passenger window last year but cracked it again as I put it in....easy job to do however. Windshield opens but the crank is stripped which is common. I have a windshield wiper and motor but never got around to putting it in...Also have a heater...also waiting to be installed. I have a box of extra parts and odd and ends. I am selling it as I now need a vehicle that will pull my boat ....so will be looking for a 50s era truck now. I know every bolt of this truck and will answer any questions you have to the best of my ability. I may have left out some details...so please ask as I want you to know what you are bidding on and to be as happy with it as I have been. This vehicle is to be sold as is with no warranty implied or otherwise intended. On Jul-16-10 at 22:31:32 PDT, seller added the following information: I have seen many 46/47 dodge trucks that do not look nearly as nice, listed for 5k -7k more. I have priced it very reasonably with a comparatively small reserve. On Jul-18-10 at 08:25:21 PDT, seller added the following information: The next bid and the reserve is lifted.
