Vehicle Detail
1996 HONDA ACCORD LX WITH PRELUDE JDM H22A TYPE S ENGINE I'm going back to school and won't have time to finish this project car. Here is what needs to be done on this car, to the best of my knowledge. If you have ANY questions, PLEASE ask them NOW before the auction ends. I will answer them promptly and to the best of my knowledge. If I don't know something, I will try my best to find out the answer. This Accord is a '96, and hence requires an OBD2 engine to pass state emissions. The JDM engine is an OBD1 so it needs to be converted to OBD2. The car is drivable in it's current condition, and I drive it around town every day. Since the left drive shaft is clicking and there is a hairline crack in the front left brake rotor, I would NOT drive it on the highway, or at speeds over 35-40 mph until the shaft and rotor have been replaced. ==================================================================================================There are over 70 photos including scans of the documentation for the JDM engine. please go to this Flickr webpage to view all 73 photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/japandomesticmarket/ Be sure to read the photo file names in the Flickr pix , they have lots of info. Here is a video of the engine running from a cold start after sitting for 3 days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi96_Aj1weY *starts instantly, no hesitation *idles smoothly, tach is rock solid, no surging or stalling *CAI draws air strongly=================================================================================================== THE GOOD STUFF '96 4-door USDM 5th Gen Honda Accord w/ '93 JDM H22A Type S engine (CLOSED DECK !) from a Japan Domestic Market Prelude and imported to U.S. via Canada from Japan147,000 miles on the body, only 54,000 on this well-kept Japanese import enginebody looks excellent, no rust and only minor cosmetic flaws: a few small dings, some small dents, various minor scratchesthe undercarriage looks great, no rust whatsoeverclean CarFax/AutoCheck: no accidents, no flood damage, no salvagecustom catback 2.5" exhaust to Megan muffler, headers, and CAI JDM H22A Blacktop Closed Deck engine from a Japanese Domestic Market 4th Gen Prelude Si VTECremoved valve cover and saw no sludge or gumming, just some light varnish, engine appears very well-maintainedcompression is excellent: 180 psi in each cylinderno signs of nitrous oxide use on engineno overheating, engine temp is rock solid, even while stuck in traffic during these 100+ degree daysbottom end rebuilt -Eagle rods -Darton sleeves -type S pistons-type S head (port and polished) -type S camshafts -type S valve train -polished and balanced crank -head gasket replaced w/steel head gasket from Nippon Racing F22B2 transmission ACT street lite flywheel (F22B2) ACT clutch (6 puck) Dropzone racing coilover kit (full kit)no cutting or welding of suspension of any kindcamber kitwipers workturn signals all worktaillights work including 3rd brake lightall door windows and rear window are damage-freehas legal tint job, 35% OBD1 P13 ECU tuned by Jun with custom adapter engine harness made from Accord and Prelude harnessesECU parameters:-rev limit raised to 9,600 rpm-no governor / no speed limiter-VTEC engagement at approx. 5,200 rpm-air/ fuel ratio is 13.0-13.6 from 3,500 rpm to 7,700 rpm-93 octane gasoline should be used but 87 works OK too-ECU maps out engine performance-ECU retards or advances timing when needed THE OTHER STUFF: -OBD1 to OBD2 conversion needs to be completed, which means:1)OBD2 engine sensors need to be added to engine2)OBD2 ECU needed3)engine harness may need to be replaced, or rewired(see note below) A note about using a simple conversion harness that converts OBD1 to OBD2: that could possibly be an easy solution to the conversion problem: just get a conversion harness, add a stock OBD2 ECU out of a junked / wrecked '96 Prelude, and you're done. It may or may not be that simple. That was my first option, but I don't have the time to experiment with it now. I put out a few emails to people that might know, but haven't heard back yet. If I do, I will post the answer here. -left front wheel has "curb rash"-4 tires low on tread-windshield is cracked-CEL is on-left axle prob needs replacement, telltale clicking sound when turning-hood release cable needs to be replaced-battery hold down is needed-left headlight only low-beam works, right headlight only high-beam works-tail lights cracked, but working-pry marks in aluminum trim around top of passenger door-passenger door lock cosmetic damage-needs a knock sensor, but not an issue once conversion is done (see answer to question below)-needs 02 sensor-driver side door panel reinstalled but needs new clips, and the inner door handle is loose-drive side window glass is undamaged, but does not go up straight, needs to be guided by pressing with hand to make it shut correctly, it could be the window guide, and that might need to be adjusted so that the track is straight-grinds going into second gear, on rare occasions pops out of 2nd, other gears are surprisingly smooth, dunno what the prob with 2nd is-clutch is all good-A/C does not work-the ride is very firm, the coilovers are set at hard, they can be adjusted for a softer normal ride, and can be cranked up or down by 4" (see below) THE LITTLE STUFF -looks like a previous owner began to shave the emblems but only got as far as detaching the LX badge on the trunk-the back seat and all the floor carpeting could use some spray and vac cleaner, but not bad, as is-the driver floor mat has a wear hole in the center-the bumpers have some dings and black marks from other bumpers rubbing against them-front right turn signal light is loose-wires hanging down inside right wheel well and have been spliced; need a clean resplicing and wheel well guard installed to protect them-a piece of wire is used to pop open the hood, needs a hood release cable-the only significant dents it has are on the left rear wheel well and even those are minor-it has various scratches (hard to see in photos), somebody keyed it, perhaps buffable-there is a white spot that won't come off above the right wheel well about one and a half inches in diameter looks like a kid dripped ice cream on it and it dried, may buff out-the stereo system head unit is a Pioneer, and there are 4 speakers, but only one speaker is connected-the cupholder cover between the seats is missing a cover-shifter knob is loose-coilovers may need to be cranked up to pass inspection, depending on how picky your inspector is regarding lowered carsfrom DropZone:"DROPZONE coilovers are precision engineered to be ultimate in suspension performance. Carefully matched springs rates and height adjustability provide exceptional handling, response, control and balance. DROPZONE coilovers allows you to adjust the vehicle's lowering from 0" to 4" Comments: -if you have a good junkyard / auto wreckers nearby, you can find 99% of these parts cheaply, CraigsList and eBay are also a good source-if you're in the Balto, MD area, I would highly recommend Crazy Ray's "U" PICK IT "U" PULL IT This would make a great "sleeper". it's a low-key family sedan with the heart of a sports car. The stock F22A1 engine in a USDM 5th gen Accord LX only puts out 125 hp. This Prelude JDM H22a type S engine in its stock condition is rated by Honda at over 200 hp, if you add a turbo and do a good tune, you're talking about some crazy hp figures for a family sedan!
