Vehicle Detail
Not running, last ran in 2005. The R65 is easy to work on, very easy to work on, I don't have time. Plus, gets good gas mileage, and by virtue of its design provides decent foot warmers in colder weather, something you do not get with the newer oil / water cooled design. Originally a California bike. I have always used synthetics with a K&N air filter, since I bought it in 1996. The paint is original so it is a little faded, and has chips here and there. The bike is not running, needs work, some parts need to be repaired or replaced: The engine turns over when you put the bike in gear, and you can hear compression, so it is not locked up. Black exhaust is original, and should be completely replaced. The starter and/or battery is bad, currently has a gel battery. Needs center stand, it works but the contact pads are worn. Ding in tank from turn indicator hitting it, the previous owner installed narrower than stock handlebars. Turn indicator knob missing. Speedo / Odometer stopped working about the time I stopped driving it, odometer reads over 42K miles. Newer rear tire, Metzlers front and back. Has sat for several years, the fuel system / gas needs to be drained, the system flushed, and carbs gone through, has a 5.8 (?) gallon tank. The bike is 27 years old, because of its age, there is no warranty of any kind. To my knowledge the bike is intact and like any BMW with time and money it can be restored. New (at the time, 2005) master cylinder, but needs plunger. No side stand. Has only one luggage rack, right side only (had only one when I bought it). Bidders with less than 10, please contact me. Buy for restoration or for parts, delivery might be possible, if winner wants to ship, winner is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs. A minimum off $500 deposit required within 24 hours of end of auction. Please no lowballers! Thanks for looking.
