FUN IN THE SUN &/OR GO IN THE SNOW NO RESERVE....NO BUY IT NOW.....WILL SELL TO HIGH BIDDER This bright Red 1973 VW Thing is probably the most fun vehicle to drive I have ever encountered. It is so simple it’s amazing. It has no need of power assisted steering or brakes or the ever present power windows, seats, and a/c we have all become so accustomed to. What it is, simply put, is basic economic transportation that puts a little fun back in getting around. Its engine starts before you can let go of the key, the clutch is smooth and sure, and the transmission shifts perfectly. The brakes stop it on a dime and the steering reminds me of a more expensive sports car. There are no oil leaks of any kind and the whole power train is "powder dry." The GM bucket seats were added to improve the comfort plus the driver seat will now adjust for my 5'2 wife or my 6'4 son. Shoulder belts were also added for safety. Anyone can drive this car. It has no rust issues except for a small area just below the battery (see pics) that has been reinforced with new steel. I understand this was a problem area for vee dubs for years. This little car is a breeze to get around town in and surprisingly has lots of highway power as well. It will run down the highway at 75-80 mph but I prefer to cruise around 60. If you need economic transportation at a steal of a price or wish to add a little fun to your commute……….here it is. WHAT DOES IT NEED or WHAT IS NOT PERFECT? The windshield is cracked. The emergency brake needs a new cable. The wipers work intermittently at best. NO RESERVE PAYMENT I require a $500 nonrefundable deposit within 24 hours of sale to secure the vehicle as sold. The remainder will be paid within 72 hrs of sale via bank wire, cashier check, or cash in person. I will not release the vehicle or title until funds clear my bank.
