Vehicle Detail
I am reluctantly selling my 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 liter. This car was delivered to the original owner in January of 1974 at Miller-Brown VW/Porsche/Audi in Gainesville, Florida shortly after arriving at the Port of Jacksonville where dealer Air Conditioning was installed as was the practice of the Porsche network at that time. I am the 4th owner, having purchased it in 2003. All 4 owners have been Gainesville residents and I can find no record that the car has ever left the state. Gainesville is about equidistant from the .Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean and the car has not been near salt spray. Odometer is currently 34,519 miles and works fine. The previous owner stripped the car, removed the ugly front side markers, professionally repainted it the original Saturn Yellow with PPG polyurethane and replaced all body and glass seals and the windshield. The paint is still very good to excellent, and has very few road chips since neither of us drove the car much outside of PCA Florida Crown events occasionally. Also, he replaced the pedal bearings, trunk roller bars, the clutch, and installed a Pertronix Igniter Solid state Electronic Ignition. Additionally installed were new Sachs shocks, rebuilt of the brake system and changed over to silicone brake fluid and stainless steel brake lines, installed new tie rod ends, and a Burch exhaust system. He said he never planned to sell the car, but fell prey to a 356 to restore and needed the money. The car has the original rust free floor, longitudinals, and does not appear to have ever been rusty. It does not appear to have ever been undercoated, and still has the factory paint on the outside of the floors. I have owned five 914 Porsches, starting with a brand new 72, and am amazed how this car appears to have dodged death by rust. Starting last fall, I had a long-time Porsche mechanic here at MICANOPY MOTOR SPORTS (352-466-4478) rebuild the engine and modernize the A/C system. The 2.0 motor received new main and rod bearings, crank(standard, not ground), cam followers, Deves rings, injectors rebuilt, all new fuel lines including front to rear, plugs, points, and fuel/gas/oil filters. All motor sheet metal was glass-beaded, then powder coated. The rebuild has about 500 miles on it. The A/C system was updated to R134, a new chromed Sanden rotary compressor, all new technology hoses, condenser, & evaporator. The rotary design requires only 15% of the effort from the engine of the old system, and the air is 36 degrees at the vent and cycles at 40 degrees! The interior is very nice, has no dash cracks, has the optional center console, and has the original Blauplunkt Am/Fm Stereo push button radio that works fine. The car is equipped with 5 Mahle factory wheels. The spare Mahle has never been on the ground or mounted on a car. Tires are Dunlop SP70 Radials. The optional factory fog lights work correctly. Included in this sale is what appears to be ALL records of service since new. Also, I am including the factory tool kit, jack, 914 original owner’s manual with correct plastic cover, Blaupunkt Frankfurt Owner’s Manual, four other Porsche original new owner’s handout pamphlets, and a nice genuine “scratchless” California Car Cover. Despite the recent market downturns, nice 2.0 1974 914 cars have doubled in value in the last five years. The latest Excellence Magazine Market Update by Bruce Anderson says this car is worth $19, 263 without the A/C . My reserve is far less. I am a longtime PCA member and have owned more than 20 Porsches. I think this is one of the best examples of a 914 2.0 still available. It a most desirable model of a most desirable build year. I am selling because I simply have too many Porsche projects going. I welcome questions & inspections and encourage either before, or during, bidding. I have also listed my mechanic’s business phone # in the description: feel free to call him to discuss the car and its condition. Please do not bid unless you are planning on buying the car. If you have no feedback or negative feedback, please contact me before biding. I believe the car could easily be driven to US locations, but since it is 36 years old, I am selling it where is, as is with no warranties. I have described the car as correctly as I know how. I will be glad to be available to buyer’s shipper but pick up and shipping is solely up to the buyer. I reserve the right to end the auction early since the car is for sale locally and advertised on other sites. A $1,000 deposit (PAYPAL is preferred) is due 48 hours after auction close with the balance due 7 days after close in cash or certified check drawn on a USA bank.
