Vehicle Detail
Summer is almost here! Could you see yourself zipping around town in this? This is a 1991 Geo Metro LSi convertible, made by Suzuki, in Canada and sold by Chevrolet under the Geo brand name. How's THAT for confusing? These little Geo Metros were about as economical as they came. Three tiny cylinders powered the little beasts, which is basically a tiny 1.0 liter engine (known as a G10 engine). Back in the 90's, gas was only about $1.15 a gallon, so no one cared about fuel economy, and, as a result, these little gas-sipping convertibles were all but eliminated from the GM line-up. The Geos that GM decided to keep got bumped up to a 4-cylinder. With economy in mind, GM did not go all-out as far as little conveniences for the driver. The car has NO power seats, windows, mirrors, door locks, alarm, power steering or CD player. Get my drift? These cars were made and sold as BASIC transportation only, so please keep that in mind. Geo Metros were well known for getting such stratospheric fuel economy in the 90's that Geos' most highly efficient model, the XFi, was rated at close to 60 mpg highway. Makes you wonder just WHY, if they could make near-60-mpg cars in the 90's, just WHY are we struggling to hit 35 mpg TODAY??? Anyways, back to this little LSi convertible: This little Geo has been well-maintained over the past two decades. The odometer says 83,000 miles, but the '91's only had a 5-digit odometer, so I have no way of verifying that figure as correct. The car looks, runs and drives like a car with just 83k miles. It starts right up each and every time, has no known leaks, burns no oil, doesn't smoke, and has no known issues whatsoever. None of the dash indicators remain lit for long after start-up, indicating to me a well-running engine. You will have no trouble keep up in traffic thick-and-thin, and no trouble reaching highway speeds. For a little 3-cylinder, it's got an impressive amount of pep, but don't expect Corvette-grade acceleration- it just isn't gonna happen. For a little test, I loaded the trunk with about 400 pounds of cement blocks and then climbed up a steep hill nearby. The little Geo climbed to the top hardly breaking a sweat, missing a beat, or losing its' breath. If you live in a hilly area, this little Geo should be able to tackle them easily. And driving in the snow? Not even a problem. The car is front-wheel driven. Drive with some common sense in the snow or on ice and you won't have any issues at all. Yes, I can see that the ebay title search indicates that there have been title and/ or odometer discrepancies noted. I do not have any personal knowledge of such, and cannot verify one way or the other. Anything is possible, I guess, with the number of owners the car could possibly have had over the past 20 years. It's also possible that the discrepancy is merely a clerical error at the title office, if a clerk inputs the wrong information while typing at his or her computer. All I can speak of is information about which I have first-hand knowledge, and in that regard I have nothing to report. Personally, I would be far more concerned if the vehicle had collision or other damage noted on the title than a possible odometer discrepancy. While the car has a clean title, it does also mention that the miles exceeds the mechanical capability of the car, which only has a 5-digit odometer. The tires are decent, the convertible top is in very good shape, interior is decent, seats are quite respectable and the paint job looks spectacular. This is one gem of a car. The 5-speed transmission shifts and grabs like new, and has no known issues whatsoever. The engine and transmission are very clean, unlike others that I've seen that are caked in a 1/4" thick sludge of oil and dirt. You can actually see the steel engine and transmission housing! The clutch grabs like new as well, with no known issues. Since it is a 5-speed, I am able to harness every possible mile out of each gallon of gas. I can generally get about 50 mpg on the highway and about 40 in town. I do all the things economy-minded people do to boost their mpg (keeping the tires inflated, regular oil & air filter changes, coasting to stop signs, red lights & down hills, not revving the engine unnecessarily and basically not driving like an idiot), so your mileage may vary from my results. Brakes are good, with no squealing or pulling to one side or the other. The car has very little rust underneath. Sure it does have SOME (what 20 year-old car doesn't?), but it's quite normal (possibly even less so) for a car of this age. I am guessing the car was a southern car (was previously registered in Tennessee) due to its' lack of rusted out panels. It has had some minor body work, but is in overall extremely good condition. The exhaust is three years old, and is still holding up quite well. The car runs about as quietly as can be expected, and your neighbors won't be cringing when they see you coming down the street. The car has an AM/FM/cassette, which works perfectly, and AC, which does not. The AC has not worked for as long as I have owned the car, and I simply haven't bothered to have it checked out. AC on a convertible? Come on.... most people are going to have the top down anyways, and not even using the AC. All the AC components are in place, so I am guessing it is a seal gone bad. All three convertible boot covers are in place. I've seen several Geo convertibles missing one or more of these parts. The radiator and battery are newer, both about two years old. New plugs, wires and air filter. I have just given the car an oil & filter change. The car zips down the freeway as straight as an arrow, without pulling to one side or the other. The car uses 13" tires, and currently has a matching set of Michelin Sports which still have a couple years left on them, and decent matching white plastic hubcaps. The rear window on the convertible top is still clear, with no rips, tears, taped up areas or yellowing. With proper maintenance, you should be able to get several more years out of the convertible top as well, but should you need one sooner, they are widely available (where else?) on ebay for about $150. The carpeting has its share of normal wear & tear, there is a single cigarette burn hole on the passenger seat, there is some very minor dashboard cracking due to sunlight/ heat, and the windshield has a crack in it, on the driver side, close to the edge. That is basically what I know to be wrong with the car. If any of these are going to be issues with you, then this may not be the car for you. All of these defects should be visible in the pictures and videos. The car does have a driver-side airbag, and the on-board computer does not indicate any issues with it. The title is clean as well, not showing any salvage or damage entries. I have taken many pictures of the car, plus uploaded a couple YouTube videos as well (you'll see them after a few more paragraphs), so that you can see the car in greater detail and hear the engine run. The car is available for test drives and in-person inspections.... just bring a valid drivers' license with you. I hope I've answered just about every question a potential bidder / buyer could have, but you are always free to send me questions. If you find you have a question or two, or wish to see additional pictures, simply use the 'Ask a Question' link found in this listing, but you will likely get a quicker response if you email me directly at dennis45255@hotmail.com. If you're in the market for a clean, decent, well-maintained, sharp-looking, high mpg, fun-to-drive little convertible, you likely won't find a nicer one for what I am asking. But don't take my word for it.... come on by and see it in person for yourself. The car is also being advertised locally, as well, so I may yank this listing at any time if the vehicle sells. Also open to reasonable offers. Unreasonable or downright silly offers will not even get a reply. Purchase of the car will be in cash ONLY. No checks. No wire transfers. CASH ONLY. I will be able to assist with helping tow the car to a buyers' destination, if need be, for an additional amount for my time, labor and gas. Click the boxes below for two short YouTube videos:
