Vehicle Detail

PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO This a very fast and powerful vehicle. It has a Bill Mitchell Hardcore Racing Engine in it. I bought it as an Iron Head 509 in November 2002, for $7400. It was in a Jegs warehouse in Detroit. I have the build sheet and dyno sheet for it. I put it in a reconditioned 1979 Chevy 3/4 ton, two wheel drive pickup truck. The front end was stripped bare and had all new polygraphite bushings installed. Heavy duty shocks were next. A Detroit Locker was put in, so I could burn the rubber off the rear tires evenly. Front and rear anti sway bars were added. Then a custom 105 gallon aluminum fuel tank was fabricated and installed behind the cab, in the front of the box. Then it was painted the blue you see here. 2.5 inch diameter Hooker Powder Coated Competition Headers were added. The original 509 engine ran for 84,000 miles when it was taken apart and rebuilt. It was bored.030 over and is now 518 cubic inches and fractions .Custom JE forged pistons took weeks to be made. A Comp Cams Hydraulic Roller kit number, 11-450-8 was installed. The Eagle crankshaft was micrometered and was like new. New Clevite rod and crank bearings were installed. New Manley valves and guides were installed. The cylinder heads had the valves unshrouded and slightly polished. A set of Scorpion Roller Rocker Arms was added. A custom built Advanced Engine Designs, Holly Carb was ordered and installed. This engine has only seen Kendall 20W-50 High Performance Oil. It has been religiously changed every 2500 miles, as have the oil filters. A Gear Vendors Under/Over Drive was installed behind the Turbo 400 transmission. The Driveline was shortened and custom built. The rebuilt engine has a remote engine oil filter sytem, as well as an engine oil cooler in front of the coolant radiator. A transmission fluid cooler was also installed. This truck, weighing 5200 lbs. pulled 450 hp and 620 ft. lbs. torque on a Mustang Chassis Dynomometer after a 500 miles breakin. The 620 ft. lbs. of torgue started at 2400 rpm's and went in a straight line to 4500 rpm's where it started to drop off to 600 ft. lbs. That means, at the rear wheels, not the flywheel. I have the dyno charts to prove it. It now has 41,000 miles on it. It burns only 91 Octane, or higher, gasoline and is also only driven in the warm months now. It gets an average of 10 miles to the gallon. Depends how heavy, or light the drivers foot is at any given moment. This engine, tranny and Overdrive is a steal at $6500.00 I have driven this truck up to 136 mph as verified by a Garmin GPS on the dashboard. This speed was accomplished with the original 509 engine and BEFORE the Gear Vendors Under/OverDrive was added. That's as fast as I dare to drive this machine. It has the aerodynamics of a brick .It lacks any kind of ground effects or spoilers that would make it safe to see how fast it will really go. I think it's top speed is now in excess of 170 mph, but I lack the courage or foolishness to find out! It has never been drag raced or abused with hole shot starts. It is scary fast and should only be driven by someone who is mature and has experience in very fast vehicles. This truck has bucket seats and a sliding rear window. I have run both Michelin and Toyo 265 x 75 x 16 tires and it has custom American Racing Aluminum wheels. I am a non smoker so it smells fresh inside.Where I live, it is more than 150 miles of two lane highway to the closest Interstate. I built this truck to drive these two lane highways and safely pass the tourists, RV's and 18 wheelers that chug along at 50/65 MPH. By the time I have passed a slower vehicle, and pull back into the right lane, I am doing around 110 MPH. When I do get to drive a divided Interstate, this truck loves to cruise at between 85 and 100 MPH, such as on I-80 across northern Nevada. It will do that all day. It is what hot rod people would call a "sleeper, until it passes you at 125 and is still accelerating! If this truck does not sell at this price, I will take the engine and driveline out, and put it in a custom built up '90's era Tran Am, that has a steel safety cage, reinforced frame, 20 inch wheels, Brembo Rotors and brake calipers, and go eat some new Corvettes!
