Bringing Classic and Collectable Car Buyers & Seller Together Worldwide 1956 Ford Thunderbird (Written by owner) The same owner has enjoyed this unique 1956 Thunderbird since 1969. An older complete body-off frame restoration was done and refurbished recently, with new upholstery, SS exhaust and radial tires. It has since traveled over 23 thousand miles on tours throughout the United States and Canada since the completion of the restoration. A responsive 312ci V8 motor and automatic transmission powers this beautiful classic. Both the soft and porthole hard top and tonneau cover provide a flexible choice for enjoyable touring. At the time of the restoration most original parts were still available from Ford. All chrome, bright work and emblems installed were from Ford. The complete rebuilt engine was from Ford as well as all suspension, brake and exhaust system components. The automatic transmission was rebuilt locally. All items in the instrument panel were restored to their original appearance and function. The upholstery was replaced at a later date because it was new at the time. A real wood veneer trim on the dash and door panels were added to create a unique feature to the interior. The body was stripped, repaired as needed and all inner panels were rust proofed with a generous rust-oleum coating. The exterior was finished with durable acrylic enamel. The factory convertible top assembly was disassembled and restored with new weather strips and covering. The factory porthole hard top was completely restored in 2000. Since the restoration there have been upgrades to improve function and enjoyment. Three "autometer" gauges for temperature, amperes and oil pressure were added under the dash as an upgrade for more accurate measurement of these vital functions. A hidden electric fuel pump was added as a back up for the standard mechanical fuel pump. All brake system components were replaced and upgraded to a silicone system. The ignition points were upgraded to a Pertonix electronic system utilizing the original distributor. The original AM radio was replaced with a modern Am/Fm radio- tape player combination that fits in the original dash location and uses the original radio knobs. It has been carefully maintained and is still a beautiful, dependable cruiser or show car. This classic has retained its crisp appearance. All chrome, emblems and bright work are in excellent condition. The exterior appearance is very attractive and draws a lot of attention. Under certain conditions a shade of difference in the finish is visible where areas have been touched up. The undercarriage is solid and spotless. All gauges and components in the dash function properly. This car performs flawlessly and has been on many tours without incident.
