Vehicle Detail

This Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia is just waiting to go camping or on a road trip! The engine and transmission are great (professionally rebuilt in 2006), but it currently has a few minor-ish issues that I am reluctant to fix simply because I don't have the time, but if you have a little extra timetime you'll have yourself a pretty sweet deal, or could do a quick turnaround. I’ve owned and used it since spring 2007 and it’s been a good bus, we’ve gone camping in it several times, driven down to Oklahoma and to the east coast. and I would trust it to do it all again (after fixing the few issues.) I'll tell you about all the sweet stuff first! Custom installed Yakima racks and locks with keys with Cargo carrier is one of the sweetest add-ons. 3 Bars with a load capacity of 300 lbs, proven $495.00. Yakima cargo carrier customized to fit all 3 bars and disperse the weight evenly. Camper poptop still fully operational while loaded. The propane fridge and stove still work, A full list of the work done to restore it in ’06 is below, The Body is probably what needs the most work to get this Van really fixed up. In mint condition this model sells upwords of 40,000! This is the exact make and modle restored here :http://www.gowesty.com/vehicle_details.php?id=1284 Sadly I don’t have the time to invest in this baby, so the opportunity is yours. Please feel free to ask any questions. Full description of what was done in ’06 below just so you can see all the sweet mods.Currently has the original steel rims, tires, lugs and wolfsburg hubcaps on it. (see #6) *NOTE Pictures are from 2007 the only difference is some of the rust in places, and the Original wheels are on it. Thanks. (I will try to get current photos up soon, just haven't gotten around to it. ) Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia has been mechanically overhauled and nicely modified for a great road-tripping / camping automobile. 1. rebuilt engine $1,100. labor was another $700. also included with the new engine was a new water pump, hoses and distributor cap. engine work was done on March 20th '06. no leaks, NONE. professionally installed by 2nd generation VW mechanic vanagon owner. I promise U will not find a vanagon with this wheel and tire combo. (*needs new tires for these rims, one center cap is missing from this rim set.) 7. Yakima mighty joe 3 bike carrier $110.00 has been mounted on the rear. the rear hatch can be kept open with bikes attached because I have created a permanent hatch dampner to hold the weight while completely lifted, with the van i will also include the lock and cable to secure the bike to the frame of the van. It is almost criminal proof. 8. professionally installed auxillary interstate MT41 battery $76.80 with optional 800watt coleman ac/dc convertor $69.95. this extra battery will insure u will never have a dead battery. the auxillary battery is also charged by the alternator. 9. upgraded headlights with stronger bulbs. professionally installed with the gowesty high power head light and load reduction relay kit $195.00. those weak old factory headlights are now a thing of the past. 10. replaced poptop tent with newer 3 window version as well as all new poptop seals $239.95. the gowesty products have truly made improvements on all westfalia and vanagon problems, the 3 window tent is much cooler in the summer than the old single window tent. 11. added the sliding door screens $69.95 which button in and zip down the middle as well as have the factory original rear screen. also included is the screen and shade for the skylight. all the screens are in near perfect condition. 12. as for the stove i have added custom made VW symbols $30.00 that attach to the burners which keep small pots nice and level.13. the sound system is powered by a sony CDXM630 chameleon 250watt cd/mp3 player head unit which is also XM ready $210.95. I have also added a hard wired ipod attachment. play away. the sound is amplified by the infinity gold speakers in the back and the kenwood kfc-1077 4" 90watt titaniums in the front $51.00 with all receipts included. also the ipod attachment can also be used when watching dvd's on your laptop. when plugged into your headphone port on your laptop u can have surround sound in ur van. sweeeeet. 14. as of november 27th 2006 I had all the front wheel bearings, brake rotors, bearing flanges, and brake pads replaced as well as new left spindle assembly $720.11. all professionally repaired with receipts included.15. on november 18th 2003 I had all the rear brake drums, brake shoes and wheel cylinders replaced and bleed $596.78. all professionally repaired with receipts included. 16. replaced feburary 21st 2006 was a new stainless steel antenna mast OEM $19.95. 17. replaced chrome molding on front window in feburary also with plans and required chrome molding tool included with auction to finish rest of windows later $19.95 for tool. 18. in feburary of '06 i replaced all the bulbs for the shifter, dash, vent controls and switches $16.75.19. in January of '03 i bought the rear table and leg set 400x800mm $155.26.20. on april 24th 2002 i had all new ignition wire set, spark plug, distributor rotor and cap, air filter, fuel filter, gaskit for the transmission pan and auto trans fluid replaced $348.31.21. on april 2nd '03 i had the ignition switch and rear wiper motor assembly replaced by a certified VW mechanic $292.56. 22. on october 10th '06 i had replaced right front window "glass only" $115.00 plus $40.00 for parts. 23. on january 13th '06 i had a gowesty coolant line permnanent fix kit installed $50.00 as well as replaced both right and left side CV joints and boots. also had the accelerator cable inkage adjusted $421.88 parts and labor. also added was a water distribubtion/T/'piece $30.60.24. interior accessory cup holders folding 2 black in front and 1 black in back $30.00. also included is bungee magazine holder $12.95. the Bamboo mat U see in the pictures is a custom fitted rug that fits tightly and can be removed easily when camping for cleaning or leaving on the ground in front of Van. this bamboo mat is high quality and very durable. 25. exterior accessories include the custom colgen bra $90.00 from gowesty, the window vents used for when it is raining, the custom made and fitted gowesty cargo bag that fits and straps six ways to the cargo area above the driver and passenger area $130.00. custom fitted VW ebmbleished MUDFLAPS . although I only have 3 one of them must of fell off or gotten stolen. 26. awning which pulls out 6 ft long and is 8 ft wide. the awning is in good condition, which means fully functional as well as a factory match to the color. the awning also attaches to the vehicle which makes it free standing and is safe in high winds. this has to be a $400.00 value. 27. the 21 cubic foot cargo carrier is also an idea of mine. It is a yakima/thule carrier that I purchased off of ebay for $250.00. I drilled holes, made steel brackets, pitched it for aerodynamics, lowered it, painted it, decaled it with vw embles and yakima diecut outdoor decals. it is completely water tight and can hold tons of stuff, 4 surfboards, camping sacks, equipment. It also includes to locks and keys. All ur stuff is safe in side. especially because there are straps built in to keep ur stuff secure. 28. on the front are fog lights that i installed into the front bumper. they are fully adjustible and are controled by a switch located on the dash. the cost of the lamps were $45.00. they also have plastic covers on them now to protect when not in use.29. in the pictures u can see curtains that i have made. they are thicker and darker than the originals. they keep out almost all of the light. they also have pockets built in for extra storage. included with the auction will be the factory curtains. the handmade curtains are faded from sun and have some simple rips. but they are a cool patch work design. priceless.30. in the front of the van i have found two VW factory rubber mats that fit perfectly in the vans front foot area. mats that fit are a very hard find $35.00 each.31. the airconditioning does work but it will need to be refilled with r-12. u can buy it at any pepboys. it takes about 5 minutes, u run the engine turn on the AC full blast, attach the adapter and fill until full. needs recharging about once a summer. 32. i have also replaced all the campers outlets. especially the electrical outlet with a newer white GFI. this is great because if something trips the circuit, ur safe. and it is also an easy reset. it also looks nicer too. out side i replaced all the city h20,electrical,and water tank filler hook ups $140.00. i also replaced every single screw on the body with stainless steel. it cost be about $15.00 and about 15 minutes. 33. as for the camper equipment it all works. the stove puts out a nice strong blue flame. U can honestly boil water in minutes. As for the fridge it is more of a pain. It works but u have to have the touch. i always plug it in electrically the night before i am ready to leave. Then i fill the tank with propane and prime it. after primed i continue pumping and lighting for an few minutes. it is hard to tell when it is on because it is so damn quiet. but if you look at the indicator light you will see when it's lit. the fridge runs off of the cars battery when driving, the propane tank for about 18 days straight and the auxillary battery but only for short hour long periods.34. i have had body work done to the van. i had macco do a front right replacement. it came out great. i however did some minor body work my self which lasted about 2 years. i didn't completely cut out all the rust. i did the best i could but it came back and bubbled through the bondo. I had a macco paintjob done. itlooked great until the rust returned, If you know a body man or are one you could have this van looking sharp pretty easily. i always focused my self on the mechanical side. 35. all manuals for awning, vanagon, camper, sony head unit, coleman ac/dc convrtor, as well as the Full Bentley vanagon $89.95will be included. so any questions u might have will be answered in one of those manuals. also included will be the blistein jack. 36. also included with the auction is a gowesty cargo bag that fits the front storage bay, it is almost waterproof.$120.00 40. But if you are instersted in a solid camper designed for living on the road then this is it. The biggest problem is going to be the body work. if you have a torch and sometime, this could be a great van. The BAD newsIf someone had a bit of time and knowhow they could have this baby up and running in no time! Currently the cooling issue is the main problem. (a small leak and and the fan doesn't kick on) Could you drive it away? I have driven in down to indy (an hour away) but I am a "risky" type guy. I had to pull off on 465 to let it sit and cool off b/c of traffic. As long as you are moving (and you've topped the coolant off before you start your drive) she doesn't overheat. If you get into traffic or stop and go she WILL overheat. I think the main issue is the fan is not kicking in, not so much the leak. So can you drive it away... I wouldn't recommend it but I would probably do it myself. Other Minor Issues. Before you do any major driving you'll want to do the breaks soon-ish too. She has the original starter installed and it is a known issue with these westys that when they get hot the starter gets stuck. you can give them a gentle tap and the'll turn and start but it's not the best thing. In conclusion. If I had the time. after the cooling issue, I would do the starter and the breaks before I would be happy to go on a big trip. Thanks for looking, and Good luck. On Jun-07-10 at 12:21:37 PDT, seller added the following information: *Forgot to too add the the speedometer and odometer do not currently work. (why it is currently @ 300000mi) I'm told it is a simple fix, but have never looked into it.)
