Vehicle Detail

Thank you for viewing my 1971 VW Fastback. I acquired the car from a retired female school teacher who last drove/registered the vehicle in 1996. The vehicle is all original, with no modifications or alterations of any kind. Except for the tires and battery, the way the car left the factory is the way the car is. I'm not sure about the paint, however, the color is original and the paint looks true to it's age. When the car was purchased it was not running and according to the owner the car just gave up on her. Having acquired another car, she ignored the VW and it sat for 14 years. I took the car home then had it towed to a VW repair shop (IVT in Pasadena, CA), I had a compression check done and it check out good (will provide receipt upon purchase). However, I was told the fuel pump was bad and needed to be replaced. I purchased a new fuel pump at a cost of $489.00, replaced the injectors, fuel filter and drained the tank. The oil was also drained and replaced and a new battery was installed. The car was then turned on and it fired right-up, and sounded great at idle, however, when I stepped on the accelerator pedal a few times, I started to hear a slight knock and the car was left alone. While at idle, the car shifted great thru all the gears, it went forward and backward very smoothly. For it's age the car is in very nice original condition, including the original blue CA plates. Except for minor surface rust under the battery (old battery sat in the car) and very minor surface rust above the front windshield, the car is very very solid. Underneath, the car looks great, the cv boots and steering box look new. Also, everything on the car works, original radio, lights etc... This is a 39 year old car, so I'm selling it "AS IS" with no implied or expressed warranties. Also, I advise that you give me a call (213-379-2015) with any questions you may have about the car prior to bidding, thank you. On May-25-10 at 19:43:11 PDT, seller added the following information: There is a knocking sound coming from the engine every time you step on the accelerator pedal. It is my understanding that the engine will have to be opened up in order to fix the problem. The car has not been turned on since the knocking sound was heard to avoid any further damage. The transmission of the car appears to work perfectly fine. When the car was turned on, I put in drive and reverse and it functioned without any problems. All the gears appear to work and there was no unusual sounds or leaks.
