Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1999 BMW 528i Sedan. I love this car, but got a new car and must let it go. Cosmetically good, but mechanically it needs work. This is a great car for a BMW enthusiast who wants a classic BMW design and is looking for bargain with potential. The car runs, and it does drive but unreliably - it will require towing to get it reliably from it's current location to yours. More info in the mechanical description below. MORE PHOTOS CAN BE SEEN HERE AT http://gallery.me.com/stevekangel/100008 Since the car requires repair, it's being sold with no reserve. I'm going to be as clear as possible on the condition. Understand that the reason the car is being sold with no reserve is that it needs work. Some important notes for those who bid carelessly:PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE LISTING AND CONTACT THE SELLER IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. IF YOU PLACE A BID, YOU ARE COMMITTING TO BUY THIS CAR. YOU ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO INSPECT THE CAR, OR HAVE SOMEONE INSPECT IT FOR YOU. BUT YOU MUST DO SO PRIOR TO BIDDING - ONCE YOU BID, YOU ARE COMMITTING TO BUY THIS CAR WHETHER YOU'VE INSPECTED IT OR NOT. A $500 DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED WITHIN 48 HOURS OF AUCTION CLOSE. Full payment must be made and the car picked up within 7 days after the sale. MORE PHOTOS CAN BE SEEN HERE AT http://gallery.me.com/stevekangel/100008 Exterior cosmetics:The exterior is in good condition cosmetically, with ordinary wear and tear for a '99. NO accidents. As seen in the photos, the blue paint is shiny. Plastic trim on rear bumper has typical oxidation. There are a few minor parking dings on the doors & bumpers and one on the hood just below the badge (can barely see it in the photos). Slight flaking on the plastic where the roof racks would attach, which I see on these cars often. NO rust and NO clear coat flaking anywhere on the sheet metal. Driver side mirror has small crack on plastic. Wheels are in decent shape, though if you look closely they also show typical oxidation. Tires will need replacing - so I'm including 4 nearly new Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires with the sale - more info below. Interior cosmetics/mechanics:The interior is in good condition cosmetically. Dashboard and controls look good. The leather seats are in good shape, with the exception of the drivers seat, which has a torn bottom as you will see in the photos. Easy fix with sheepskin or other aftermarket cover. Trunk is in nice shape. As for interior mechanics, the only issue is the passenger side front window doesn't go down - needs a new actuator arm. Same thing happened on the driver side window a few years back and it was a pretty easy fix. The interior lighting and dash is all working perfectly. The stereo works perfectly, including the Alpine 6 CD changer in the trunk. The dual-zone climate control works fine - AC is cold. Moon Roof works fine. Power seats both work fine. Comes with all original manuals and 2 original key/remotes. Mechanical:While the engine starts and runs, and I have driven the car short distances as is, the car needs repair and should not be driven until repaired. BMW's inline 6 is known to be a fairly bulletproof engine, so I could see this car running another 100K if repaired and maintained. As you can see from the photos, the Check Engine light remains on, and there is an occasional appearance of the Automatic Transmission and Dynamic Stability Control lights. When these other lights appear, the car will not accelerate past a few miles an hour - usually happens in stop and go traffic. Coming to a stop, turning off the car and restarting it will usually get it going again. I have been told it needs a new throttle assembly, but haven't verified this is the true issue or only issue. Additionally, the wheels need balancing (evidenced by shimmying at low speeds) and new tires are needed, but I am including 4 nearly new winter tires with purchase - see below. Bridgestone BLIZZAK Bonus!Included with this sale is a set of 4 top of the line snow tires, the 225/55R16 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50. These are the recommended winter tire for the e39, perform flawlessly and cost $112 each new. These tires were used for just 1/2 a season as I usually drive an SUV during snow. As you'll see in the photos, the treads are nearly new. They won't fit on my new car, and I could sell them separately but they may as well stay with the Bimmer.
