Vehicle Detail
This is a rare one-owner 1988 Fiero GT with low miles. This is my baby and I have cared for it as if it would be with me forever. I purchased it in the fall of 1987 when I learned this would be the last year of production for the Fiero. It is my understanding that Pontiac sold only 11,000 Fieros in 1988 and only 1,000 were GT's. This car gets many compliments wherever I park it. I have found more then one note under the windshield wiper asking if I wanted to sell it. During the first year I owned it, I put 9,000 miles on it. Since then it has been in storage for 14 years straight with only a few hundred miles being put on it each year, mainly to burn off the gas and get a fresh tank with stabilizer in it. In storage, it has been covered and on jack stands. Feeling the itch, I started driving it more and put about 1,000 miles a year on it. Tires were changed, but you can get Goodyear GT's to bring the car back to "original specs". The heater core leaks and I bypassed it, but I have a new one and the hoses to go with it. The hydraulic clutch gave me some problems so both the master and slave cylinders have been replaced. Cosmetically, it shows very well except for a scratch on the passenger side rear panel. Although I have a Wolf Bra for the nose, it does have some minor nicks from road debris that occurred during the first year of use. The interior is cloth and in very good shape. I stiffened the suspension with new urethane bushings. But, again, it can very easily be restored to pure stock if you wanted to. Around 2000 (I think it was the Y2K bug) the computer was replaced. Since then I have had it connected to a battery monitor/charger. I replaced all the speakers and mounted an XM satellite radio. It is a five speed with a sunroof. I also have the factory sun-block panel which usually has been lost from other cars of this age. If it came from the factory with the car, I have it. It has power windows, rear wing and factory black mag wheels. Did I say this is a sharp looking car? All the original build stickers are in place. I have the original manuals and window sticker, even the "New Car" NJ inspection sticker. The car has been registered and inspected for the past 5 years. I did not have to go through NJ inspection last year due to the car's age, but I did just to be sure all is well from a safety standpoint. This is your chance to own an original - complete - collectable - Ponitac Fiero. On May-11-10 at 10:00:34 PDT, seller added the following information:Some additional points in response to bidder questions: The stereo is working perfectly. It's an AM/FM with cassette. I replaced all 4 speakers and added an XM Satellite radio antennae and radio adapter. There is nothing wrong with the radio. Display and clock all work like new. The speakers were replaced with aftermarket "dupes". They fit into the O.E.M. space without modification. The car did not come equipped with the "sound booster" option. One of the few options it does not have. The air conditioner probably needs a recharge. The compressor and clutch work fine. There is nothing mechanically wrong with it. I did charge it a few years ago and it blew cold last year. I do have a replacement fan belt for the compressor that goes with the car also. The car has never been in an accident. The paint is in great shape, no fading or flaking. It is a brilliant white. The car is original – none of the body panels have been replaced, they all have the same serial number on them. I have added photos of a front nose chip and the scratch on the right rear side. Being a plastic body there is no rust. I have original two key sets, owner’s manual, and window sticker. I also have a 1984 Fiero GM Shop Manual and a Chilton 1988 Fiero manual I will include in the sale. The car runs very well with no issues I can detect. The transmission has no problems, but you may consider replacing the clutch. It still works with no slipping, but engages very high on the petal. There was slipping when I had trouble a few years ago with the master and slave clutch cylinders. They have both been replaced. The heater core leaks and I bypassed it, but I will include a new core and hoses to repair it with the sale. I also have replacement headlights to convert the original sealed beams to halogen bulbs, but have not installed them and will include in the sale. Also included will be the Wolf Bra and cloth cover I have been storing it under. A little more on how I store it. I laid 4 layers of 6 mil plastic over garage floor where car would be parked. This keeps moisture from wicking though floor and into car. I covered this with a carpet. This takes humidity from air and releases it when air is drier, like in winter. I believe this is why there is virtually no rust on a NJ car. Inside the car I put a desiccant. There are no "old car" odors in the interior. Everything looks smells and feels new. I could drive this car every day. It drives like new. This car is very near perfect with only 16,000 miles on it. If you want to collect it for shows, it is not far from being flawless. If you want to use it - it is ready to go. I hope whoever gets the car will enjoy it as much as I have for the last 23 years.
