Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a gorgeous, clean and powerful 2003 Ford/ Fontaine F-550 Classic Traveler RV/ Boat hauler and pick-up truck in excellent condition inside and out! With a 6.0 liter diesel engine rated at 325 hp and 560 ft-lbs of torque, this truck not only has pulling power and towing capacity to spare but also delivers great fuel economy! This F-550 Classic Traveler features dual rear wheels, an automatic leveling rear air suspension, a five-speed automatic transmission with auxiliary cooler, a 25,000 # fifth-wheel hitch, a 10,000 # Class IV hitch, an electronic braking control system plus a 72-gallon fuel capacity with a fully automatic Transfer Flow Universal Flow System. All these features make super-long hauls a breeze! The beautiful leather interior has been conscientiously cared for by non-smoking owners. The truck has an XLT Lariat package with all-leather seating, powered/ heated split-bench front seats, wood grain finishing on the doors, and an FM/AM radio with 6-CD player. The air conditioner and heater both work perfectly. There are no known outstanding Ford/ Fontaine recall items and no maintenance issues on the truck itself or on the Classic Traveler package and it's sub-systems. This truck has been professionally maintained and serviced exclusively by Ford diesel truck technicians in Maryland, New Jersey and Connecticut. This Ford/ Fontaine F-550 Classic Traveler brings heavy duty features and luxury comforts together to provide 21,000 pounds of towing capacity (30,000 pound CGVW rating) in a vehicle that can be used conveniently for trips around town or on any routine family trip, just like any other large pick-up truck. We've owned this outstanding machine since 2006 and it has proven itself flexible, economical, capable and reliable while hauling our 38' Alfa Gold around the country or when commuting to and from work in the Maryland/ D.C. area and in New England. If seriously interested, contact the seller at 831-869-0994 or send a message via eBay! See, test drive, ask lots of questions and buy this amazing truck located in Bloomfield, Connecticut right away! Note: We've opened the bidding at $18,999.00, with no reserve above that. We've chosen also to add the "Buy-it-Now" feature to facilitate purchase in case a seriously interested customer may wish to close the deal this week rather than over the coming weekend when the auction times-out. Either way, in response to several questions we've had regarding our "lowest price", the highest bid above $18,999.00 will get this truly phenomenal truck! Some added information in response to questions (07 May 2010): The automatic 5-speed transmission features the Torq-Shift Tow/Haul mode, which provides finer-quality gear shifting during climbs and descents. This mode performs perfectly and is a huge benefit when pulling heavy loads up and down long or steep hills. The wheelbase of the truck is 181 inches (I just measured it myself to confirm...center of hub to center of hub is 181"). The bed is 8 feet in length. The two diamondplate highway boxes are integrated storage and auxiliary fuel tanks. The low-profile bed of the Classic Traveler version of the F-550 allows for more clearance between the truck and the towed vehicle without totally sacrificing the pick-up truck utility of having a proper pick-up bed. The 5th-wheel hitch plate (face of the coupler) has surface rust, but there is no rust or corrosion otherwise on the vehicle. I will upload close-up photos of the undercarriage and body shortly. We're selling the truck because our work routine doesn't allow for much RV'ing any more (military life is what it is). We sold our RV a while back and we've not even had time to devote to selling the truck until now. It is a great truck and it deserves to be on the road, towing a huge trailer! Updated images and some added information (Saturday 08 May 2010): In response to several questions from callers asking about corrosion, I've uploaded some photos. Taken today, these show nicely the great general condition of the undercarriage of the truck as well as the bed and hitch. As is visible, there is surface oxidation present on some of the components under the truck (exhaust line, drive-shaft) but there is no structural rust. The 5th wheel hitch plate has some surface oxidation, but the hitch is solid and in perfect working order. Some small chipping in the bed liner has allowed some oxidation, but these are very small areas near the tailgate. The rear suspension airbags (not shown) are in perfect condition with no dry-cracks or blemishes. I've added also one image of a small scrape on the exterior of the body molding, just forward of the left rear wheels. The scrape was caused by my tool box. The vehicle has never had a collision or impact on it of any kind, so buyers will find that the truck looks as perfect as it drives and all of its sub-systems operate. Some additional information about the fuel economy we've experienced with this truck (Sunday 09 May 2010): When towing our former 38' Alfa Gold RV, we nominally experienced 9.0 mpg when on the highway. Most towing was done on highways, with very little short-distance towing done. Also, regarding wear-and-tear, except for when positioning the RV on grass or prepared dirt camping spots, the truck has never been driven off of a paved or gravel surface. Driving to and from work, or when otherwise not towing, the truck delivers what I consider to be outstanding fuel economy at 16.1 mpg on the highway. Most non-towing driving has been on highways, with occasional trips around town and for a time when I used the truck to commute. A note about inspections of the vehicle prior to bidding/ purchase: Since most bidders will not likely be able to visit the truck for an inspection prior to the auction closing, we stand ready to give you as much additional detail as possible prior to your placement of a bid. We ask that prospective bidders continue to contact us, preferably by phone, so they can get as much information about the truck as possible. Of course, we also are standing by to show the truck to prospective buyers who are able to make the trip to Connecticut to inspect it. We want the truck to go to the right buyer and we want there to be no surprises for the buyer. Serious prospective buyers, on a case-by-case basis, can be placed in contact with the local Ford truck service center that has performed maintenance on the truck during the previous six months. Again, this will be on a case-by-case basis so as to not flood the service center with casually interested parties. Thanks and happy bidding!
