Vehicle Detail
My 1993 Eagle Talon AWD is up for sale. Read the following description carefully before bidding (i.e. committing yourself to buying this car). I'll describe the car as completely as I can. First of all, this is meant to be a project or a parts car. It currently runs on 3 cylinders (one cylinder has lost most pressure). I'm not sure if it's a valve that needs to be replaced. I didn't have the money and I'll be moving abroad in three months, so I decided against fixing it. It idles kind of rough and acceleration (especially on an up-slope) is not what it used to be. I've driven it very little since it lost pressure cause I didn't know if it will get in worse shape. It is drivable though, and one could drive it home, if he wants to take the risk. Fuel consumption should now be much higher than before. Another annoying thing is vibration coming from the drive shaft at certain speeds. This is now emphasized because of the rough idle, but even before, there was a thumbing at different ranges, when you would try to accelerate. I guess, the drive shaft bearings are to blame (17-year old rubber) and one could take out the whole shaft, replace the bearings, and reinstall (and align). I was in debt most of the time so I didn't find the money to do that. By the way, I own the car since 2004. There are other small annoyances that you would expect from a 17-year old car like this. Sometimes the driver's window switch gets stuck and you have to be patient to get the window up. The driver's side can lower the passenger's window, but not close it up. A few times it the last 6 years, it seemed like there was no power at all when you tried to start the car, and the trick was to move the gear from P to N. The automatic locks went crazy a while ago so I took off the fuse and I operate them as manual ones. The fuel door opens but not as easily. The jack broke a few years ago. Shocks and struts should be the original ones, yet they are still in decent shape (especially the back ones). However, it's not exactly smooth when you drive into potholes. Let me describe some of the work that has been done to the car. The newest fix was a water pump - timing belt - sparks and wires about a year ago (around 5k miles back). Two years ago, it overheated and I changed radiator and fan rotor; those two happened both on the highway so I had to pay whatever they asked me (together, more than $2k). I've changed many alternators (the last one is doing well; the previous ones were crapy), mounted used 17' wheels with tires with decent thread left, changed an ECU due to leaking capacitors, and finally had the automatic transmission unit give up as well, and instead of getting a new one, I installed a manual up-down selector of gears which has been working as expected for a year now. Due to my own messing around, the steering wheel has no horn assembly. I wanted to fix it using a different design, but I didn't get to that. I also didn't connect the air-fuel gauge that you can see it the pics. I did some painting, but it's far from professional. You can see in the pictures. The original paint had (and still has) many chips and cracks. Rust is minimal. The back bumper is not as solid as it used to be (a guy texting to his gf hit me from behind and you can see the mark of this license plate on my back bumper). As is implied throughout, you get what you see in the pictures. The cassette player with the equalizer still works fine. The interior (seats, plastics) looks good. The roof is getting a bit loose at some corners and would need some glue. I am not a smoker and I don't think the previous owners were either. Some good things about this baby: In the winter, the AWD gives you an edge; in fact I've pushed a pickup truck and a pt cruiser go up an icy slope with this car. When all four cylinders were kicking, you had good acceleration (except for the drive shaft vibration). I've never disassembled the turbo, but seems to be spooling ok. Breaks have been strong throughout, lately I hear some noise coming from them and I'm not sure if it's because I'm not using the car as much. I've changed at different times both CV axles; I have no idea what's their condition now. Cruise control works fine. I was getting up to 25-26mpg when driving on the highway at 70mph; in the city I was getting much less (maybe 15mpg). Steering is very good still and the car handles well. It has the original muffler and exhaust pipes I think. What else? I've been giving this car Mobil 1 synthetic all those years, and I know that the previous owner did the same. Most of the time I used K&N oil filters as well. The car has currently a K&N air filter and a gutted airbox. I never raced the car, just the occasional traffic light charge. I think that's about it. You are more than welcome to come have a look at it, if you live in the neighborhood (Cincinatti). I don't expect to make money out of it, just to pass it on to someone who has some use or even some dreams for it. Payment should be completed within a week. After payment has been received, the buyer picks up or better yet, hauls away the car. If you have any questions, please ask. ****Forgot to mention the A/C: the previous owner had removed the A/C belt, maybe to get a few extra hp out of the car, but bottom line is I haven't put the belt back and I have no idea if A/C works and if it needs recharging (R-12) On May-08-10 at 09:43:19 PDT, seller added the following information: ******Some more maintenance work done to this car that I recall: tie rods a year ago; resurfaced front rotors, new back rotors and break pads 3 years ago; oxygen sensor 3 years ago.
