Vehicle Detail

I have had this car for about 10 years...it's perfectly drivable and enjoyable just like it is, but would be great as an easy restoration project. Anyone who knows anything about these cars knows that 3,321 were made for this year and even fewer of them were 4-speed. I have two of them, don't need both, so have decided to sell this one. It has a running 350 small block in it that the guy who owned it before me put in (idiot). I bought a 4-bolt 396 (L78) block from a 69 Chevelle to put in it but never had the time. It's been redone & honed with new brass freeze plugs (.030 over). The 396 does not go with the car, unless we work out a package deal. In ALL years of Chevelle combined, there were only about 12,000 L78 engines even made. It is a Kansas City car, manufactured the 3rd week of October 1966. The orange paint is obviously not original...again the same guy before me painted it that color (idiot). The original color is Granada Gold with a black top (G2 paint code) and black bucket seat interior with 4-speed and console. It has a 12-bolt, 3.73:1 posi rear. I had the differential cover off once and actually counted the ring and pinion gears to be sure. It winds about 3,000 rpm at 60 mph, and has a VERY quick start. It's not a cross-country car....more made for stoplight racing. It has manual drum brakes front and rear, and the only power anything it has is power steering...manual top. I also have #990 square port heads (for an L78), and a forged steel 454 crank shaft (with required, externally balanced flywheel and harmonic balancer) that I planned to use with the 396 to stroke it a bit. I can maybe work out a package deal for you to take some of these parts. The dash needs to be redone, so I collected all of the parts to do it with...but again, never had the time. I can maybe work out a package deal for those, too....but otherwise, they don't come with the car. The horn needs a new contact ring ($10?). I melted the old one putting a black SS steering wheel back on it. The guy before me (idiot) had put on a gaudy aftermarket steering wheel. This car is very rare, highly sought-after and I have seen them in showroom condition bring $40K. This one doesn't need much to be restored to that level....and it's perfectly enjoyable as-is. Buyer will pay shipping. The most I could do is maybe call some shipping places, but buyer pays. Anyone within a few hundred miles could just drive it home.....it'll go. I would naturally expect payment in cash or cash equivalent(s) within 10 days of sale. On May-04-10 at 12:12:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: Since I am getting a lot of guys asking about trades...I will only consider some sort of trade deal on a '72 or earlier Corvette convertible. On May-05-10 at 11:34:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Update #2: Everyone keeps asking me about the floor pans and quarter panels, so I put pictures of them in the ad. I hear a lot of questions about the trunk floor, so I put a picture of it in the ad. A few people have asked me about the bumpers, so I put a picture of them in the ad. Bear in mind that the SB 350 is only recommended to move it to your garage and then sell for about $500, or so, to use to buy the parts to finish the dash (or whatever). As for the guy who e-mailed me saying that "it's a big block that makes it an SS", remember that putting a small block in a "138" car doesn't make it a Malibu, just like putting a big block in a "136" car does NOT make it an SS. Let's be real, if I had put the big block back in this car, I'd want more for it. I can sell the 350 myself and find a $3500 396 for the buyer and put it in myself (same motor mounts) and just ask for $7000 more, if a buyer wants to contract the sale that way...up to the buyer. The car is priced as a driver that needs a restoration. It is complete, minus correct engine & a few minor parts. You can drive it to the mall. It runs, steers, stops, etc. If you think the price is too high, then I recommend that you find another (real, not "cloned") 67 SS convertible in similar condition for less (good luck)....but PLEASE don't e-mail me with nonsense if you are not a serious bidder with at least a base knowledge of this type of car.On May-06-10 at 06:54:28 PDT, seller added the following information: Update #3. Your local Kia dealer is always willing to cut you a deal, so being a reasonable guy, I will too: Show me an ad or some other evidence that there is a REAL (not "tribute" or "clone") '66 or '67 SS convertible for sale somewhere--anywhere! that makes my car seem too expensive and I will gladly negotiate a lower price with you.
