Vehicle Detail
For aution is a 1985 BMW M635 Euro. This was the M Sport version of the BMW 6 series, that was not imported to the US, until the M6 at a later time. This vehicle was at one time federalized, spent much of its life in TX, then AZ, and finally CA. Though it has been registered and smogged here, the paperwork that was created when it was federalized is not in my possession. There is no EPA certification sticker located on the door panel, and I have none of the paperwork. Though the vehicle was smogged last year (I still have the records), I don't think it will pass without that documentation at a reputable smog station, so I'm not even going to try. I've had the car and driven it for over a year, and I'm selling it for personal reasons. It was going to be a restoration project, but the vehicle needs work, and I don't have the time, so it is up for sale. Still interested - read on: This vehicle cosmetically will need work. The body is straight, solid, and has no rust - but needs paint. the clear coat on the hood, trunk and in certain places on the roof, doors and fenders, is peeling. The interior is ok. The carpet is absolutely perfect. The seats are not torn, or ripped, but need reconditioning or simply recovering. They are faded. The driver's seat left bolster is worn. The door panels are great, except for the faded leather. The center console is perfect. The dashboard has 3 cracks on it. The area behind the aft headrests is worn. The instrument cluster and dashboard ventilation facia are perfect. All glass is in good shape. All windows work, the power locks work. The AC blows cool, not cold. The windshield has a small rock chip about 2mm size. The stereo is not stock. There is a removable face cd player (trunk mounted cd player is inoperative). There is also an equalizer and small amp. The stereo works. Mechanically this car will need some work. That being said, I'm giving an honest assessment, so someone doesn't buy the car and not know what they are getting into. The engine and components appear to be in great shape. Unlike a lot of cars out there, this one has not been sitting in a corrosive enviroment, so everything looks relatively well kept. The engine compartment is clean. The components and hoses appear to be free of cracks or rot. The cooling system works well and appears new. I can not find any oil leaks on the car. The exhaust headers appear free of rot as you will see in the photos. The car starts right up and drives smooth. The 5 speed transmission shifts flawlessly. The car will drive straight at 80 mph, but will develop a small shimmy at 90, and when the brakes are applied. I've been told this is due to slightly worn suspension components. You will not notice this while test driving, I'm simply telling you this so you are aware that the shimmy does exist sometimes. The ABS light comes on above 5mph. There is a fault in the ABS system. I've been driving it like this for a year and will need to be fixed. The car is solid with no significant rattles, and still has that BMW feel. The tires still have more than 75% treadlife remaining. If I were offering a trouble free, 1985 M635 - I'd expect to sell this for the 12-25k that it is worth. That being said, I know the car has some issues, but it is a clean starting point, and if you were to buy it and do nothing, it could still be a solid daily driver.
