Vehicle Detail
1968 Jeepster Commando I have owned this fantastic Jeep for several years. I personally (and the previous owner) have completely renovated and improved this classic from bumper to bumper. Over $19,000 in receipts for just the improvements (see photo). Newer 4.3 liter GMC Vortec V-6 from a 1995 Jimmy. Installed when it had 24,000 miles. It now has less than 36,000 and runs as you would expect (like new!) It is the ideal size for a retro-fit and has more-than-plenty of power and torque. I have been using synthetic blend oil. It does not use any oil nor leak a drop, and of course, does not ever smoke. Lots and lots of new stuff under the hood including new radiator and steel fan. Matching wiring harness and correct wiring through-out. Computerized fuel pump. The matching 5-speed transmission with hydraulic clutch is a dream to drive. Shifts so easy a 15 year-old could learn to drive on this. 1st gear is not too low for the street and in 5th you can cruise at 70-75. I just replaced (March 2010) the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. Has the matching transfer case and goes from 2 wheel to 4 wheel with the click of the floor lever. (Locking hubs). Has the matching GMC steering column with power steering. Nice! Tilt wheel. Matching blinker & high/low beam control. Locking ignition. Air horn = loud! Original brake set-up works great. New handbrake lever and cable. Uncut body with all new paint. It looks fantastic! No rust. Virtually no chips or scratches except: 1. a dent the size of a dime on the side of the hood - passenger side; 2. the tailgate has lots of little scratches inside and out, from use. New style Jeep exterior mirrors. Newer (2003) rear end. I think it is a Dana 30 Smitty bumper on the front with a remote Super Winch Driving lights turn on with the high beams. Interior has been completely Rhino hided. Even the inside of the steel top. Floors are perfect - no rust. The seats are weather proof and in very good condition. Matching instrument cluster with custom shroud. Jeep upper-dash board. New shoulder harnerss in front. Seat belts on back seat. Custom roll bar. Older Panasonic AM/FM/CD with speakers hidden behind the doors. Steel doors with frameless, roll down windows. Steel top with tinted windows that unbolts easily. Small dent on the top of the steel top. The underside has tons of undercoating. I can't see any rust. Almost all of the bolts and screws that could be exposed to weather have been replaced with stainless steel bolts, screws New 30 / 9.50 / 15 tires on steel wheels with stainless steel beauty rims that you can remove if you go off-roading. Stainless steel lock-out hubs. In taking these photos I notice a fray on the serpentine belt. So I just replaced it 4/24/10. The oil has just been changed and the tires balanced. You can go any where... way up in the mountain or all the way to Key west with no worries. Rear Smitty bumber with HI-LO jack mounted- does not rattle. I have had many Jeeps since 1973. This Commando runs fantastic. Everything works excellently. Runs smooth, quiet and has no rattles! I do almost no off-roading in this and don't drive this in the winter! It is super clean. I get more comments and compliments in this than my old Mercedes convertible or Porsche convertible and is soooo much fun to drive! Clear title in hand.
