Beautiful 1971 Karmann Ghia with Southwest Character OverviewFor sale is a 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia with Southwest charm! If you want a nice-looking Karmann Ghia to cruise around in with little effort this is it. This car is solid and in fine shape overall - it is an active car and I drive it at least once a week. The car starts, runs, drives, stays in gear, stops (brakes work), and steers straight. It is a comfy ride with new shocks all around (I have the receipt for this). Everything runs well, but the car would likely need a tune-up/adjustment for the new owner to drive any considerable distance. I drive it regularly on the weekends around the neighborhood, and to the grocery store - it is a joy to drive and gets a lot of attention and waves. Everyone loves this car and people always come up and ask about it! The body has almost no rust since it is a Southwest car. Arizona title in hand. Currently registered and active vehicle. I have receipts from recent work done. New Additions: 1) Brand new KYB GR-2 shocks all around - comfy ride! 2) New Brosol 31-Pict Carburetor 3) New Empi 009 Distributor 4) New Spark Cables 5) New Bosch Spark Coil 6) New Iconic Automotive Radio and Speakers Installed - the radio has an external ('Aux') device plug. Plug in your IPod, MP3, external CD, etc. and play it through the radio. The radio cover plate and knobs look like the original 1970s radio style. 7) New Sewfine Black Cutpile Carpet (with sound-deadener underneath, looks and smells good) 8) New Custom Door/Quarter Panels (one of the quarter panels in the back (right side) needs to be clipped in properly) 9) Reupholstered Back Seat (the front seats have slip-over covers - original gray underneath) 10) New Rear-view Mirror and New Driver's Side-view Mirror Features: The speedometer works, tachometer works, fuel gauge works, headlights work, brake lights work, heaters work. A spare tire is included with original jack, and a lug wrench. The car has a fairly new freeway-flyer transmission, nice-looking 8-spoke gray/brushed empi rims, newish tires (around five hundred miles on them), euro-sport exhaust (sounds like a sports car - everyone can hear you - hey, Ghias are the slowest sports car around!) A water/rain drain pan keeps water/weather off the engine, and oil-pan air filter (original type) included. Rear grill chrome adds a sparkle. Passed Arizona Emissions test for 2010. The headliner is in excellent shape with no tares and looks to be original. The rockers are in great shape. The car has a very cool and unique looking steering wheel with real diamondback rattlesnake and leather wrap (this IS a Southwest car). The shifter has a new high-quality iron-cross shift knob. Extras: I am including some extra goodies: Road-side repair kit (with spare spark plugs, spare fuel filter, spare gas line, some tools), spare push-rods, spare emergency push-rod tubes, spare belt, some replacement rubber/felt for the window, repair manuals, spare interior light bulbs, spare fuses (in glove-box). Other aspects/considerations/wear & weathering: Paint: With a wash and wax this car still looks very nice (a '20-footer'). On closer inspection you can see touched-up paint chips/cracks and paint oxidation. There is a spot on the front left side that has a bit too much touch-up paint. There are no major dents except a small dent in the rear bumper. The car could surely use a wet sanding and nice paint job to look top notch. Doors: The doors close and lock. They will need to be rehung at some point for smooth closing. (The passenger side door needs this more than the driver's side door.) Mileage: The true mileage is unknown since '71 Ghia's don't have hundred thousand mile markers (the odometer says about 68400). I'd add one or two hundred thousand to the odometer number considering the car's age. Body: The car is straight and drives/steers straight. The body is very sound and the underside, chassis and pans are in good shape with no rust. An auto mechanic who worked on the car said to me that the body is in great shape for such an old car. This car does have a fiberglass nose piece (I have no record of this work). It looks fine to me, but a purist might replace this part with an original piece one day or put in the nose grills. Mechanics: Everything works overall. The car starts and runs fine (always let it warm up like all air-cooled VWs) and it is drive-able. The only mechanical work I would recommend to a new buyer down the road is a shifter adjustment - the shifting is a little on the tight side - it stays in all gears and shifts/transitions fine. The car does not smoke, and doesn't appear to have any major oil leaks. It does have the occasional drip from the oil pan like most old VWs. This is a car that has been maintained and kept running over many years (by various owners). It would be an affordable working Ghia or a great full restoration possibility (this is not a perfect museum piece nor is it an old hulk). Why am I selling this car? I am selling this car because I am moving on to other projects, but will be sorry to see it go. This car has been a lot of fun and I hope someone else can enjoy it as much as I have. Local Inspection: If you are in the Phoenix, Arizona area and would like to view the car I would be happy to show it - contact me via E-bay's message system to set up an appointment. This is a very fun and attractive car. I hope someone else can enjoy it as much as I have. Happy Bidding! Conditions of Sale: Deposit of $500 due within 24 hours of end of auction and full payment (the balance) is due within 3 days of the close of the auction. Only bid if you can pay - it costs a lot of money to place car auctions on E-bay. Shipping/transport: Buyer is responsible for transporting the vehicle. Payment type: I prefer PayPal. The deposit must be paid via PayPal. I will take a cashier's check or cash from local buyers for the balance. If you pay by cashiers check then I will release the car & title to you once the check clears. Long Distance/Overseas Buyers: PayPal only. If the car is shipping overseas then you should find someone to inspect the vehicle for you so you can post feedback in order to release payment from PayPal (PayPal only releases payment after feedback is posted). Title: I have the car's Arizona title in hand and will mail it (registered mail w/ signature receipt) to the winning bidder after receiving full payment and winner's (and future owner) information along with pick-up/transport information. This car is being sold 'as-is' and I have described every aspect of the car to the best of my knowledge. The seller reserves the right to cancel the auction at any time.
