Vehicle Detail
Purchased in 1997 with 75,000 miles showing on the odometer, but the speedometer cable was broken so the actual mileage was unknown. The odometer was reset to zero during the restoration. It has been driven only 794 miles since completion in 2000. It underwent a very thorough restoration and was taken down to just the bare body shell in the process. This is not a 100 point car but it still wins at shows, and isn't so perfect that you'd be afraid to drive it I'm only selling it because I have too many other project vehicles and don't have room for them all or even the time to drive them. :( Some of the highlights include: Chassis & Powertrain 1 258 six cyl engine - rebuilt 2 New motor mounts 3 2 barrel carburetor - remanufactured unit installed 4 Ignition system – upgraded to a Pertronix electronic ignition 5 Cruise/Torque Command 3-speed automatic transmission – rebuilt/resealed (just in case) even though it operated fine 6 Exhaust system – the entire system (manifold, all pipes and muffler) has been Jet-Hot ceramic coated 7 Engine, transmission and many underhood components color matched to the interior (burgundy) · Most other components have a black wrinkle finish 8 Battery – new this month 9 Brakes – power front disc/rear drums, DOT 5 silicone fluid 10 Power Rack & Pinion Steering - remanufactured unit installed 11 245/60/R14 tires with little (if any) wear 12 Original Styled Road Wheels 13 New rear springs 14 New shock absorbers 15 A/C system - Converted to R134a 16 New A/C compressor Interior 1 Original seat covers!! No holes, rips or tears 2 Leather wrapped steering wheel 3 Original style vertical tachometer installed. Spare NOS tachometer included 4 SONY AM/FM/CD player with hidden antenna 5 Center floor console from a Lincoln Continental - Armrest with storage - Two slide-out cupholders - Black leather boot over the automatic transmission floor shifter provides the appearance of a manual transmission 6 Rear seat headrests 7 New carpet 8 Color matched fire extinguisher 9 Custom diamond pattern stainless steel door sill plates 10 Auto-dim mirror 11 Extensive application of Dyna-Mat style sound deadening material on most every sheet metal panel. · Multiple layers in many areas. Exterior 1 General Motors 4185 Arctic White 2 Bumpers – chrome was stripped then painted body color. · The mounts were modified to pull them in approximately 3" closer to the body to minimize the original design gaps. 3 Reproduction Pacer X appliqués on the doors 4 Headlamp bezels/doors and tail lamps surrounds painted satin black 5 NOS locking gas cap 6 Windshield – replaced with new glass Miscellaneous 1 Car Cover (beige) 2 Factory AMC, Chiltons and Clymer shop manuals The Negatives The doors were in very rough shape compared to the rest of the body when I bought it. I originally had the doors repaired by a local body shop specializing in rust repair. However, as shown in the photos the rust is returning in the lower front corners of both front doors and along the lower hem flanges. The remainder of the body is not showing any evidence of corrosion. The air conditioning low pressure hose rubbed against the throttle linkage and developed a small hole. This line will have to be repaired or replaced to have the system hold a charge and function properly. The engine starts and runs great overall...although there's a slight hesitation at times on acceleration. Of course this may possibly be due to the 2 year old gas in the tank. (I did mention I haven't driven it much lately) :(
