Mitsubishi Evolution SE VIII 2003 204250 miles and counting as I am still driving it Purchased the vehicle at 152k miles and have been driving it and maintaining it ever since. Selling due to building a bmw race car and the wife says somethings got to go. Salvaged title when I bought it from Connecticut and has gone through the Re built title inspection in New York State with no issues. Salvaged due to right front impact that ruined the hood, bumper right front headlight and passenger fender, radiator support and radiator. With Evo parts being as expensive as they are, that was enough to total it. No frame damage and does not pull left or right. Wears tires evenly. Transmission Transfer case and diff have been flushed every 10-15k miles most recent being at 198k miles. With all oem Mitsubishi fluid from dealer 10w30 ams oil full synthetic oil every 5k miles I am mechanically inclined and have done all the work myself. Other then the Transmission Rebuild 155k rebuild transmission from Jacks Transmissions with late model evo 8 5th gear installed and upgraded bearings. ( rebuild was performed by them and I sent them unit to them out in Colorado, I think is where they are located ) I have receipts to prove it New Oem clutch kit and flywheel installed Previous owner stated that the transfer case was rebuilt by SHEP around 100k due to the typical whine issues the stock units from the factory experience. Never had an issue with it and have just keep changing the fluid religiously. 1500 $ rebuild and stage one is what they called it, have receipt from previous owner From what I can tell with Car fax. I am the 4th owner. All 4 wheel bearings have been changed. First one at 159k right front , second one at 166k which was right rear, third was left rear at 188k and fourth was left front at 197k 4 new motor mounts installed at 157K two oem , two aftermarket to decrease engine role and sway during boost 158k new throttle body seals (boost leak test showed that the original ones were leaking) 165k rear trailing arm bushings 170k valve cover gasket 170k new inner and outer tie rod ends on both sides with alignment 174k rear oxygen sensor 180k new front oem shocks and shock mounts 184k new oil pressure sending unit 185k new oil pan 185k new starter 188k new oil feed line to oil cooler 191K New spark plugs 192k front and rear rotors and pads and brake caliper flush ( yes all 8 bleeders flushed ) got to love brembo calipers 193k new oem injector resistor pack 195k new hankook ventus s1 noble tire s 235/45r17 199k timing belt kit – new timing belt, new water pump, new balance shaft belt, all seals replaced while in there – both cam seals , crank, balance shaft belt seal. All timing pulleys and idler pulleys and drive belt. Coolant flushed and boost leak tested with no leaks 199k new oil return line from oil cooler 200k new alternator 202K New intake manifold gasket, new exhaust manifold gasket and turbo gasket, throttle body gasket, and injector seals, egr valve cleaned 203k new turbo oil drain gasket to pan 204k new front oxygen sensor and egr solenoid located on the back side of the intake manifold bracket Known issues are, A/C isn’t blowing cold – fully charged so there s no leak in the line, just haven’t dived into the problem as of yet. From what I read, relays like to fail for the a c system on the evo s so that’s where I would start Front speakers are not hooked up to the radio, honestly, I got it this way from the guy in Connecticut and haven’t gone after it to hook things back up, don’t listen to the radio much but the rears work just fine Rear diff axle seal has small leak on driver’s side Of 4 gauges, Boost gauge and shift light works. The digital display of shift light/rpms is old and needs a new unit (led numbers are failing) The oil temp gauge will need a new sending unit as well as the oil pressure gauge which can be had from a common auto parts store inexpensive but the gauges did work well when the sending units were functioning. Power steering pump has had a whine in it since the day I got it. Usually can hear it when its cold. I Figured it would finally die on me one day and it has not. So ive always lived with a whine. Still works just fine No check engine light and Passed New York State inspection in August I have never tracked it. To my knowledge it’s the original untouched motor and wouldn’t have any reason to believe otherwise. Pulls strong and does not hesitate, fun little go cart. Small oil leak from dip stick o-ring where it enters the block. Ive been told by the mitsu parts guys there is a 9mm o-ring down there. No other fluid leaks, Only modifications are cold air intake, Evo 9 Blow off valve, and the resonator was cut out by the previous owner so a straight pipe has been welded and u clamped in. No added noise due to stock muffler being still in use. Turbo is a stock unit ( I have never changed it ). Previous owner stated it was a stock 16G turbo with the more desired hot side and cold side set up. Something about Evo 8 and Evo 9 combo for better flow. The unit is in good working order (no in and out play on turbine shaft) and blow off valve is still re circulated as it should be. I have never tuned the car and to my knowledge it has never been tuned or messed around with. Boost levels are stock and the car can get up and go in a hurry so I’ve never had the itch to tune it myself or have it professionally tuned. Rear half of the car has been painted due rust on the drivers side quarter panel about 2 years past, small spot is coming back through again. Pictures will show that. Hood is fiber glass and has a good fitment. Hood, passenger fender, and front bumper cover were all sprayed the same bby blue color around 152k when I rebuilt the car. Some paint chips in the hood as shown in picture from road debris over the 6 years ive owned it. Car is used as is and ive explained and documented everything I can think of.
