VERY RARE 2009 BMW R1200RTP POLICE MOTORCYCLE WITH WORKING ORIGINAL BMW POLICE LIGHTS ONLY 48K MILES SELLER BACKGROUND INFO I have been a vintage auto and motorcycle mechanic and professional vehicle restorer for 40 years, and some of the vehicles I restored sold for world record prices at the famous Barrett Jackson Auction in Arizona, plus, I was a motorcycle engineer at Kawasaki Motors for several years, therefore, I know both cars and motorcycles very well. EBAY FEEDBACKEbay feedback is extremely important, and I have been fortunate to have received excellent comments from everyone that have bought cars and motorcycles from me. Most of the vehicles I listed have sold prior to the auctions scheduled end date to buyers that used the "Buy It Now" feature. I am not a dealer . I am merely selling off a large collection of things that my wife and I have had for years as well as some of our relatives vehicles whom don't have an Ebay account etc. FREE WARRANTY I am well aware of the huge risk and fear some people have of buying any used vehicle, therefore, I am giving a 5 day or 300 mile warranty (which ever comes first), which will be in writing and provided to the buyer at the time of the sale. I realize that this may not sound like much, however, I am the only person on Ebay whom is giving a free warranty of any kind on a motorcycle, and if a vehicle makes it 300 miles with no issues, it will likely make it thousands more. The warranty will cover the engine, transmission, clutch, and final drive. If any of these items fail during that time I will either pay for the item, pay to repair it, or will refund the entire sale price of the vehicle. These various options are up to my discretion. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION This bike is easily nice enough to put in local shows although there are a few very small and light scratches on a couple of the plastic pieces. It is also in superb mechanical condition. It has not been thrashed like many other police bikes have and most of the miles are freeway miles. For most people, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a police bike with the original police lights on it. BMW made this model with this engine from 2006 thru 2009. During these years, they updated and improved various parts of these bikes including the brakes, engine, and final drive whenever any issues may have arisen, therefore, due to these continuing improvements, the 2009 model is best of all these years. In 2010, they made several major changes, and being the first year for this updated bike, there were some issues that the 2009 didn't have. It still has the original factory BMW red and blue Police lights on it which are manufactured by Code 3 Public Safety Equipment, and are only available directly from BMW dealers. This light kit alone costs around $2400.00, and that does not include installation which is around another $1200.00. If you plan to use a Police bike for escorts etc and it does not have lights on it already, you should be prepared to spend a lot of money having them installed, not to mention the week or more that you may be without your bike while you they are installing them. THIS BIKE VERSUS OTHER BMW & HONDA POLICE BIKES THAT ARE FOR SALE There are a few BMW and Honda police bikes on the internet right now, so I suggest you look at a few others first then see this one last and compare. I know these BMW bikes fairly well and know some of the others that are out there, and none of the ones I have seen remotely compare to this one for the condition, year, options and the price. ENGINE AND DRIVETRAIN The engine starts within 2 seconds even after sitting overnight and when it is cold outside. It immediately goes to high idle like it should then idles normally after around 2 minutes. It does not smoke when first started or when accelerating hard. The engine is quieter than most other identical BMW models even when accelerating. The clutch works perfectly. There is no chatter when letting the lever out and it does not slip. The clutch begins to engage after the lever has been let out a little less than 1/3rd of the way which means it has very little wear. The final drive is xlnt and does not make any noise and there is no excessive backlash in the gears. There are no leaks anywhere. BRAKES It has ABS brakes mand they work perfectly with minimal effort similar to the way power brakes feel. TIRES It has Metzler Z8's. FEATURES It has heated grips with low and high setting. You can barbecue a chicken on them on the high setting. The windscreen is electrically operated and adjustable up and down. The throttle can be locked into any position to reduce hand fatigue on long trips. DUAL BATTERIES The engine battery is an AGM and in xlnt condition. The auxiliary battery that runs the police lights was working but it was getting weak, so I replaced it with another $130.00 AGM battery so no one else would have to do it any time soon because the entire right and left side fairing assemblies AND the gas tank must be removed to change this battery. RESTORATION PROCEDURES PERFORMED The bike was in perfect mechanical condition when I got it and was in very nice cosmetic condition, however, there were a few marks on a few of the parts that wouldn't polish out enough for my liking so I refinished them, because in my opinion, the rest of the bike was nice enough to warrant it. Bellow is a list of what I did. CLEANING - All the fairings and saddlebags were removed then nearly every inch of the bike was cleaned with a toothbrush and q tips. NEW FOOT PEG RUBBERS NEW SHIFTER RUBBER ALUMINUM FOOT PEGS - Polished to a chrome like finish. ORIGINAL FACTORY STAINLESS SCREWS - Most of the visible ones were polished to a chrome like finish. ORIGINAL ZINC PLATED SCREWS - Most of the visible ones were replaced with new chrome or polished stainless ones including the ones on the carburetors, fuel injectors and sensors. LARGE ALUMINUM FOOT PEG BRACKETS - Repainted with lacquer then cleared with lacquer. WHITE MIRROR COVERS - Repainted with PPG paint then cleared WHITE FRONT FENDER - Repainted with PPG paint then cleared LARGE WHITE REAR RADIO COVER - Repainted with PPG paint then cleared. SADDLEBAG SIDE COVERS - Repainted with PPG paint then cleared. INSPECTION It is located in beautiful Lake Elsinore California and I am available to show it most anytime.
