Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner Convertible. This car is a RARE Z-code 390 (300hp, 427ft.lb. torque) FE big block (1st year for the 390) with the 3:56.1 rear gear. To add to that, it is even more rare paired with with 3spd on-the-column-transmission with Overdrive!! Ford offered a standard 3 speed, Ford-O-matic 2spd. auto, or the 3spd. auto. The majority of these cars were ordered with the Mileage Maker 6 cylinder or the old faithful 292 Y-block engine. Of the 390's ordered in 1961, the vast majority were ordered with the automatic transmission. This is a true Z code 390 (see vin tag photo). Now, with all that hype said, this car need FULL RESTORATION and is priced accordingly. It is all there, but there is some rust in the trunk and the rear quarter lips and the rear edges of the front fenders. The floors are amazingly SOLID!! I could not find rust in the floors, and the factory undercoating is still there. Over the years, someone put the chrome wheels on it, that somewhat resemble a Chevrolet Rally wheel, but they are a Ford wheel and have Ford stamped on the center-caps. The interior is all there, and all the dash knobs are there and in decent shape. The radio, ash tray, and glove box emblem are all there as well. These are usually missing an very difficult to find. There is some trim and door panels that go with the car. The door panels are the front panels and will need to be replaced, however I am not sure if they are re-produced or not so the old ones are great to be used as a template to have a set made. If you have any questions please ask. I can send/take additional photos upon request, but just know I have a family and a full time job so there may be a slight delay in getting those photos. I don't play games with pricing either, My starting bid AT NO RESERVE, is over $2,000 under the average price for a car with these options in this condition according to price guides, market trends, and auctions reports. If you only bid once, and your the only bidder, you got a hell of a deal. My father purchased this car in 1984, and the title I have is the 1984 Colorado title from when it was transferred to his and my mother's name. Unfortunately, he suddenly passed away in November of 2016, leaving behind a collection of cars and NOS restoration parts. Also unfortunate, I don't have all the details about this car specifically, other that it was a running-driving car up until approximately 5 years ago. I had ridden in this car when I was a kid (pretty much in the condition you see here!). He always wanted to restore this car, and it was kept indoors the entire time he owned it but that never happened (mainly because death had other plans). In checking this car over, I found the brake pedal goes to the floor when I pushed it and at least one wheel is frozen (brakes froze), but the clutch pedal feels good and the shifter moves appropriately. I have no idea how to use the overdrive switch, so I don't know what would be a "normal feel" for that. This car was driven into the shop it is currently in, but that was 2013 and I don't think it has run since. I would advise flushing fuel system before trying to start it. Also, the intake is date coded 1964, and the exhaust manifolds are both coded 1963. With that said the cylinder heads are both C1AE (1961) leading me to believe the block and heads are original to the car but I don't know for sure and I am not sure where to find the date code on the block. This car is SOLD AS IS WHERE IS and has no warranty either expressed or implied. I have a clear Colorado title for this car. Buyer to pay a $500 deposit within 24 hours through Pay-Pal, and the remaining balance is due within 7 days and I will not take Pay-Pal. The remaining balance needs to be paid through bank wire transfer, or certified bank check, or cash in person. I can help with arraigning shipping. I have sold several cars on here, and I have 2 shippers that I have found to be reliable and offer quality service. The are both local to me, so getting the car shipped to you is not a problem, but of course the wining bidder will pay for the shipping. I can also keep the car indoors where it is now until it is shipped.
