Vehicle Detail
I AM SELLING A GERMAN ADVENTURE POP-TOP CAMPER VANAGON FROM 1982 !!! ALSO KNOWN AS A VOLKSWAGEN "WESTFALIA" OR AFFECTIONATELY AS A "WESTY", THIS IS VW'S ORIGINAL SUV. FROM A TIME GONE BY, WHEN THINGS REALLY WERE GREAT AGAIN !! IF YOU ARE TRYING TO HIDE FROM FBI INVESTIGATIONS OR MONEY LAUNDERING THIS VEHICLE IS PERFECT FOR YOU !!! GO CAMP ON BLM LAND AND GET AWAY FROM THE 5G MICROWAVE RADIATION !!! YOU CAN FIX THIS CAMPER WITH A FEW TOOLS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN GUATEMALA !!! WHEN THEY SEE YOU PULL UP IN THIS VAN THEY KNOW YOU AREN'T THE COPS, BRO !!! CHICKS DIG IT AND ALL THE LOCALS WAVE TO YOU !!! YOU'LL BE THANKING ME WHEN YOU TAKE THIS THING TO THE BEACH AND SCORE WITH SURFER CHICKS !!! This camper is the factory original Ivory color and is literally oozing patina...the TEXAS SUN FADE PATINA on this van is out of this world phenomenal !!! She is still Air-Cooled with a 4-speed manual transmission. Engine is a Gold Label VW of Canada rebuild with AMC heads on it, of unknown mileage. Disc brakes up front, drum brakes out back. Some of the rare items include both tables and legs, fog lights and fog light switch in the cluster, dealership added cruise control, and dealership installed A/C with a newer style compressor. Westfalia interior and pop-top assembly need a little TLC. The canvas is new, but is installed upside down. I haven't got the time to fix that right now and have left it as-is. The previous owner was said to have replaced the fuel tank sender and done a fuel tank seal kit, as well as replaced the shifter bushings. I got this van as a project and have since then done the following fixes to it myself..... Engine: Degreased underside of engine and tins Replaced heater boxes, exhaust crossover pipe, and muffler with good used New heater box to head gaskets and new exhaust to heater box gaskets Replaced pushrod tube o-ring seals Replaced valve cover gaskets Replaced all vacuum lines Installed oil cooler fanshroud cooling flap New oil cooler seals New intake to plenum cloth boots New fuel injector o-rings Replaced all fuel line with 5/16" fuel injection line Engine has electronic ignition (Empi brand) and Bosch 009, I adjusted the timing New aluminum timing scale Replaced AAR elbow and hose to plenum Replaced intake S-Boot with good used New front engine mounts all 4 Engine sump plate o-ring replaced Oil and filter Electrical: Got dash lights working (oil, gen, turn signal indicator, headlight indicator) Got fuel gauge working Replaced hazard switch Cleaned turn signal relay connections Got clock and illumination lights working Replaced alternator harness with good used original Cleaned fuse box connectors and installed correct amperage fuses Brakes: Replaced rear wheel cylinders Bleed all 4 and adjust rear brakes The interior is clean and mostly complete. It has both tables and legs, but missing one securing knob. No rear hatch mosquito screen. Upper bunk cushions are clean and there is a cool Texas print on the bottom of the fold out cushion. Front seats have been replaced with early Blue captain's chairs with armrests that fold up. There is one 'Vanagon' logo style rubber floor mat on the passenger side. All original curtains, with a couple broken plastic curtain straps. Original 'Super 6' fire extinguisher still present behind the passenger seat. The cushions do show some stains, but could be cleaned by a detail shop or motivated new owner. Missing rear hatch and slider door interior panels. I had to rekey the back hatch lock to get it to open and lock. The A/C system is visually complete, but has no belt hooking up the compressor to the engine, and I'm sure it will need some going over to be fully operational again. The front fog lights are complete with switch in the dash cluster, and you can hear the relay clicking, but the lights do not illuminate. The cruise control unit up front and above the transmission behind the engine are there, but looks like someone cut some of the wires underneath the van, and would need a thorough going over, therefore it is not hooked up to the engine. Needs new windshield wipers and there is a circular crack in the windshield on the passenger side. I would recommend a replacement windshield in the future. Someone has also welded some RV tow bar hookups underneath the front bumper, which could stand to be cut off if the new owner doesn't want to use them. There are still a few things for the new owner to tinker with, but soooo rewarding and thus the price discount on this van !! When I got the camper, it had a lot of vinyl decals on it everywhere. I did my best to remove them peacefully, but some had to be wet sanded off, and those areas have been paint blended after that. As well, the previous owner had sanded some surface rust on the outside rocker. I sanded it smooth, then sprayed it with acid and primed it and painted it. The whole van could use an even better cleaning and wet sand, but I have scrubbed it a lot and washed it. Missing the outside hookup plastic covers, and I had to source and install the outside Flue Vent. Over-all I tried to make sure it retained the awesome TEXAS PATINA look!!! I have tried my best to describe this vehicle as accurately as possible!!! Please see the pictures!!! This van runs and drives, but the tires on it do show wear. For the Buy-it-Now option, I will have brand new tires installed on it!!! The price is low to reflect overall unrestored condition, and that she still requires some TLC as to be expected with a 36-year-old German camper. Please message or call with any offers!!!! As with any used vehicle, please understand that owning something like this is a labor of love, and there will certainly be more problems with it in the future. Because of this, there is absolutely NO WARRANTY for this vehicle. Clean Texas title and title transfer sheet!! Sale includes cool vintage 1983 Texas license plates front and rear !!!
