Vehicle Detail
For auction -- 2003 Dodge Sprinter 170" Wheelbase High Ceiling with DIY camper conversion! This truck has a Mercedes CDI 2.7 straight-5 cylinder diesel engine with almost 100% highway traveling miles. This is a coveted engine for the sprinters as this was one of the last models that had a straight-5. It is an absolute work-horse of a truck. The truck has an aftermarket turbo installed approximately 20,000 miles ago with a boost controller at the same time. I have replaced the blower fan for the AC, mass air flow sensor, fuel return lines, and installed a high-output 200 amp alternator. I also installed an isolator solenoid on the battery line, and installed a second auxilary battery to power the amenities in the conversion. I am about to replace the wiper arms and wipers, and the rear tail light assemblies. The truck has a Curt 7500lb trailer hitch with a dual-plug hookup. The truck is half-wired with a brake controller, but the brakes have not been hooked up to the system. The conversion consists of a small 'kitchen' area with three lower drawers and two overhead storage cabinets. There is a tall closet with a hangar bar and trash can. A 3-seat bench with seatbelts is installed in front of the 'kitchen'. Mind you, it is not a permanent install. The bench is bolted to the floor but it is not a factory install. In the rear is a "U" shape lounge that converts into a king-size bed, complete with a mattress topper. The power in the conversion comes from a 10,000W power inverter, connected to a uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The inverter powers recessed LED lights on 4 switches to allow for 'zoned' lighting. The audio-visual has wall-mount Kicker 4" speakers on a speaker selector in the space above the closet. Included is a 3-way AV splitter so the kitchen, bedroom/lounge, and driver-seat TVs can receive the video feed. The audio splits off to your surround sound power amp unit (not included). A separate AC-voltage air conditioning unit is included and sits under the 'kitchen' counter. I installed a 110V power hookup on the outside wall of the truck so you can plug into shore power virtually anywhere that has a 15amp circuit available. The sliding side door has been bolted and sealed shut for security. There is a Fantastic Fan roof fan and a rearmost air vent that either pulls or pushes air depending on how you orient the duct. The rear doors open into a storage bay with a 110V outlet for whatever you need. I welded on reinforcements for the rear door latch about 2 months ago. The truck is an absolute workhorse. I did all of the work myself, it is a hand-painted blue color with a hand-painted silver roof to deflect sun rays. It is insulated all the way around the truck to help with cooling. It does get hot while traveling sometimes because the space is a lot for the dash to handle. The power inverter will run the 110V AC unit until it has depleted the battery, so I often cycle it on and off to keep the temperature manageable. I had contemplated on installing a roof-mount camper AC unit, but never got around to it. They retail between $500 and $1000. Overall, the truck has given very few significant problems. It is probably due for a transmission service and the dash does indicate a glowplugs could be changed (although I havent had issues with them). Note to buyer: The truck is a hard-start right now as there is a vacuum leak somewhere in the fuel system. It will start with starter fluid and it will run without issue from there. The low pressure and high pressure pumps are working and the injectors are working. There is likely an issue on one of the fuel seals on the low pressure side, which I am troubleshooting. I will continue to try and diagnose the issue, however the issue is considered an AS-IS situation for the sale. If I can get it fixed, it is your bonus. The EGR valve could probably be replaced, but as far as I know, it is functioning. There are no massive oil leaks and I just repaired leaky fuel return lines about 2 weeks ago. I have the culprit of an O-ring that goes on the end of the fuel rail that is possibly the suspect for the vacuum leak in the fuel system. I have been responsible with oil-changes and regular maintenance and this truck has traveled me over many miles on the highway without issue. The only breakdown I had was when the old alternator died on me, and that was before adding the auxiliary battery and ultimately upgraded to a 200amp high-output alternator. The brake pads are about halfway, and rotors are new within 1 year. Tires are at about 50% wear. Note to buyer, this is a truck with 212k miles. Its a nicely kept diesel and had a lot of life left, but with any old vehicle with this many miles, there will be maintenance. I've done a good job at preventative maintenance, but this is an AS-IS sale. The truck is functional but not perfect by any means. I will consider delivering within 200 miles (give or take) from Baltimore, Maryland. Please contact me for more pictures or questions.
