Vehicle Detail

2001 Volkswagen Cabrio GLX Manual Transmission 2 Liter/4 Cylinder VIN: 3VWDC21V72M803060 130,632 Miles Excellent Condition Mechanically and Cosmetically I purchased this car from a private owner in 2014 for $6000 and have done extensive service on the car to ensure its reliability. I purchased the car with the intention to rent to my Airbnb clients whom I accommodated in Mid-Century, architect-designed homes in Miami. I closed my business before rolling out this service so I never rented this vehicle and am now pruning my collection. Please note that I am also currently listing a second VW Cabrio — a white 2002 automatic — so some of this description applies to both vehicles. The GLX model was the top of the line. Leather interior. Power top. Power Windows. Heated Seats. Top of the range audio. Cruise Control. ABS brakes. In order to guarantee the reliability of this vehicle, I commissioned my mechanic — who I’ve used for two decades — to perform the following work: Replace all 4 shocks/struts.Replace front right tie rod joint.Replace ignition coil pack with new factory VW part.Service A/C.Replace A/C evaporator with new factory VW part.Replace A/C drier with new factory VW part.Replace all hydraulic lines operating power top. Replace all shift linkage bushings.Replace water outlet housing and o-rings (part of cooling system service).Replace front and rear brake pads.Replace rear rotors.Four new Sumitomo tires. Oil Change and Filter.Brake Fluid Change.Replace Center and Rear Exhaust.Tune-up with replacement of Distributor Cap, Rotor, Spark Plugs, Plug Wires, Fuel, and Air Filters.Mount, Balance, and Align Wheels.Check and repack rear wheel bearings. Replace all Cooling system Hoses.Replace Timing Belt and Water Pump.Recover front seats with premium leather and vinyl identical to factory. They are even nicer than factory new.New front windshield.New rear window.Brand new battery (March 14, 2018). The only item I have not repaired is the cruise control. Refurbished ruise control modules are readily available used on ebay for less than $100 and one can have original module refurbished for $50. I simply am short on time so I will leave this last item for the next owner. In short, this car is ready for a second long, happy service life. In the spirit of transparency and integrity, the previous owner noted that the car has had the rear bumper replaced/repainted after a low-speed accident. The repair and paint is well-done. I had my mechanic double-check the car for alignment and frame issues and there are none. So the car is in excellent shape. This is an original and unmodified, unmolested car. Recent receipts from 2014 to the present totaling $4567.60 are included in sale. I’ve spent approximately $7000 in total on bringing this car into excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. I’ve put 1000 miles on car since above service. The suspension struts, bushings, and joints are all in excellent condition. CV joints and steering rack are also in excellent condition. No rust. All pictures taken this week. Original owner’s manual included. This car has alway been parked and stored in indoor, climate-controlled garages. It needs nothing and is ready for a long, happy service life. I’m a fan of these Cabrios, and have owned three others, and I think you will find this car as remarkable as I do. On a personal note, the 2001 VW Cabrio is my favorite of the long model run. 2002 was the last year of production. The 2001’s were basically the same as the 2002 but had a few things that make them even more lovable IMHO! In 2002 VW spec’d slightly larger diameter tires which gave the Cabrio a slightly heavier road feel. The 2001’s on the other hand are wonderfully nimble and responsive in comparison. Also, the 2002 model made a small but significant change in the convertible top. In 2002, they started permanently glueing in the rear window glass whereas up to 2001 the glass is installed in a frame with a rubber gasket enabling one to easily replace the rear window glass should the glass break. If the glass is glued in as is the case on the later model, you have to replace the entire top if the glass breaks. Well, I have loved this particular Cabrio the most of the Cabrios I’ve had the pleasure of owning. I think you will too! Happy bidding. I am happy to answer questions and arrange viewings prior to close of auction. I do not do escrow arrangements or arrange viewings after close of auction. I will work with buyer's schedule to arrange pick-up/shipping and the car will be stored in a climate controlled garage until pickup.
