Vehicle Detail

This is my 1989 Porsche 944 in Guards Red with a beautiful, custom red and black leather interior. I have had this car for about 2 years. I am selling it because I need the money and do not drive it much. While this is a used car, it is in good exterior condition, and exceptional interior condition. Mechanically, this is a very sound vehicle. Starts right up every time, including in negative zero conditions - I had to put my daily driver in the shop for repairs last January, and hadn't started it since I covered it in November. No problem driving it around for a couple of days. I love these cars and I have owned two, and I believe I know what most people interested in a 30 year old German sports care would like to know before looking at the car. I will tell you everything I know so that you may make a confident decision. Firstly, I do not need to tell you that this is a legendary sports car. It has a Porsche 2.7L Naturally aspirated SOHC 4cyl engine, upgraded from the previous model's 2.5 The engine was designed to be as smooth as a V-6 thanks to a counter-rotating balance shaft. It is good for 162hp at 5800rpm and has a very consistent torque curve, producing 166 foot pounds at 4200. This vehicle is rear wheel drive, and handles superbly. It has nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution thanks to its five speed manual transaxle mounted in the rear. This is a small hatchback. There is plenty of room in the front to accommodate large persons comfortably, however the back seats are useless to anyone but small children, perhaps. Highlighting the features of this particular example, you can see that the interior is clearly not like the generally ratted out original. The person I purchased it from said he had done much repair and maintenance one this vehicle so that he could give it to his son, but his son wanted a Mustang instead. Almost everything works as it should in the interior of the car, with a few minor exceptions. The power windows work well most of the time, but rarely the driver side window will stop working. I don't know why, probably an electrical fault of some sort. The plastic face plate for the passenger power seat likes to fall off. Cruise control, although present, does not work. The sunroof does work, however one of the two securing latches on the ceiling is broken. This can cause a few drips of leakage in a car wash. The odometer of this vehicle does not work, and is stopped at 138 thousand. I am not sure, but I would estimate that it has not accumulated much more millage. The last owner did not end up driving the car much, and I have put no more than three thousand miles on the vehicle. The dashboard is not cracked and the controls for A/C and the like are functioning. Even the climate control appears to work. The coolant system has been upgraded to accept modern refrigerant. It does run and provide cool air, although it is not blowing as frigid as it could. The tip of the lock knob on the passenger side is broken. The floor is in great shape and it comes with mats that are in great shape. The custom leather workmanship is very high quality and nearly flawless. The radio and CD player work well. The exterior of this vehicle is still very beautiful. The paint still has a good shine on it, although there is some small chips on the nose and hood of the vehicle. I did some quick repairs of some areas near the wheels where the paint had failed and the body was beginning to rust. No rust anywhere else; these vehicles have galvanized steel bodies and rust is rare. There is a crack in the windshield that was made by somebody changing the windshield wipers and accidently allowing the spring loaded metal clamp to snap back. The paint is faded on the gas cap cover, and those thickened areas on the side and wheel wells are showing their age. The undercarriage is coated and in good shape. One of the taillights is cracked, and one of the front running lights is loose. Wheels look good, tires are nearly new. The headlights come up and retract perfectly. New hood shocks. I have already mentioned that I believe this vehicle to be very reliable; and it would be a great daily driver. When I bought the car, I had no worries driving the five hour trip. You can be confident in this cars road worthiness if you need to travel far to pick it up. The battery is strong and she has never failed to start, even after a whole winter without being driven. This car has electronic fuel injection and runs well in any weather condition. New spark plugs and wires. K&N intake. The engine is still strong and very fun. No chocolate pudding oil! I examined the timing belt and it looked okay, but I do not know when the last time the belt was changed. I changed just about all the fluids out, and put new synthetic transmission lube in. I also repaired the transmission mounts, making it much smoother. I did use a slightly firmer urethane, so you will hear a little more transmission noise from the rear. I replaced the clutch master and slave cylinder, and the clutch works well. The five speed manual usually works well, but on cold days, it may take a little more effort to push the stick into the gate. This car must have had recent suspension maintenance, as it handles almost like a new car and drives very straight down the highway with little vibration. The tires have like new tread on them. I bleed and flushed the brake system, and they are strong and still have meat on the pads. The rotors look good to me. This car has antilock brakes, however I haven't had occasion to test it out. Power steering works great. The parking brake works but may need adjusting. Exhaust is in great shape and she has a not-to-loud throaty rumble. It never overheats and the fans and radiator are in good condition. Good oil pressure. It gets decent, around 21mpg, fuel economy. Car comes with two factory keys and a genuine leather Porsche fab. I have the key to the security lugs, and they actually all come off. I have described this car as fairly as possible to the extent of my knowledge, if there is something else you need to know, please E-mail me. Take a good look at the pictures and happy bidding!
