STOCK #: C1456 BIKE: 1967 Triumph Bonneville T120R VIN #: T120RDU49812 MILES: 22,898 MILES ON THE RESTORATION: 5 MOTORCYCLE INFO: The 1967 T120R is a matching numbers bike that was purchased for restoration in Tennessee. The bike was disassembled and the unit construction motor and trans was sent to Skinners Triumph, Bsa dealership in Alabama for complete rebuild. The Skinner family is well known and very well respected for engine building of British bikes in he South. The frame was painted and the tank was sent to a respected painter, Bob Myers of Virginia. At the time Myers was considered to be on the level of Don Hutchison for paint work. The restoration took a number of years and was stored in a climate controlled garage during that time. The bike was restored using only quality British components , Dunlop rims, stainless spokes, stainless fenders, British exhaust, new Amal carbs. etc. The bike has less than 5 miles since restoration and will make a fantastic vintage rider and should remain reliable for years to come. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ RESTORATION INFO: For half a century, Skinner’s Motorcycles has specialized in British-made motorcycles - first as a dealership for the in-demand choppers and now as a vintage shop for the two-wheel classics. When James "Pop" Skinner first opened Skinner’s Motorcycles in 1957, he sold BSA and Triumph motorcycles from a shop in Opelika that was so small it only held up to five motorcycles - for sale or repair - at a time. In 1961, Skinner moved his motorcycle shop to its current location at 488 Opelika Road in Auburn. At that time, there weren’t many other businesses located in the area, mostly just a gas station across the street and a grocery store next-door. Pop Skinner operated his motorcycle shop for more than a decade without the use of hot water, air conditioning - or a telephone. He figured if anyone needed him, they’d find him. And he was right. A number of Skinner’s customers would call the neighboring grocery store to reach him. The store’s owner would run next door and eventually get Skinner to the phone. During the 1960s and 1970s, Pop Skinner would often close his shop for days to travel across the country with his sons, Jim and John, who competed in motorcycle races. Skinner banked on his solid reputation to keep customers coming back. Once again, he was right. Motorcycles were a way of life for the Skinner family long before Pop Skinner decided to open his shop. Skinner rode motorcycles during his 20-year military career, including in the Korean War, and also raced motorcycles. In the early years of Pop Skinner’s 50-plus-year marriage to his wife, Elizabeth, the couple used a motorcycle with a sidecar as a mode of transportation. "That’s all they had was a motorcycle. They didn’t have a car. That’s how they got around," said John Skinner, the couple’s youngest son and the current owner of Skinner’s Motorcycles. More than a decade after Pop Skinner died, his former customers still return to Skinner’s Motorcycles and ask about him. Some of the customers also remember John Skinner from the days when he was younger and helped his father out around the shop. Fifty years after Pop Skinner opened Skinner’s Motorcycles, much about the business has stayed the same. Some sections of the business still don’t have hot water, and advertising for the shop is still largely based on word of mouth - and T-shirts. "I guess that’s my best advertisement," John Skinner said of the T-shirts, which bear the company’s name and a British flag, and have become quite popular. People have been seen wearing Skinners Motorcycles T-shirts as far away as Japan, Switzerland and England, he said. Anyone who sends John Skinner a motorcycle license plate gets a free Skinner’s Motorcycles T-shirt in return. So far, Skinner has received plates from around the world, including Germany, Hong Kong, Australia and Egypt. Today, Skinner’s Motorcycles services all makes and models of motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and four-wheel, all-terrain vehicles. But the shop specializes in the purchase, restoration and repair of vintage British motorcycles. Triumph and BSA motorcycles are no longer sold brand new. Both companies stopped producing them decades ago. "If I don’t have it, I know where you can find it," John Skinner said referring to the vintage British motorcycles. Skinner’s Motorcycles also ships British motorcycles parts - and T-shirts - around the world every year. The vintage British motorcycles are in demand these days by two main groups: younger riders who have an appreciation for the classics and older riders who owned one in their younger days. "They’re not buying them for transportation; they’re buying them for a hobby," John Skinner said of the older riders. "They want their first motorcycle again. "If they have any hair left, they want to let it down one more time." ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Reserve price will NOT be disclosed!
