Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. I want to start off by saying that this is my boyfriends car. I am selling it for him while he is in Florida. I do not know much about this car other than what he has told me, so if you have any questions please ask. If I do not have the answer I can contact him to get you one. He told me that this 1966 Toronado is the deluxe edition. He had two 1966 Toronado's but sold one a few years ago and kept this one. It has been sitting in our garage for a little over a year and now is in our driveway covered with a car cover. The odometer reads 770249. The engine is free and starts up fine, but has not been started in a while. Whoever starts it will need to empty the old gas out and put new gas in before starting. It has many power features like power windows, mirrors, and seats. When he purchased it someone had already upgraded a few things. He also made a few upgrades himself. It has a 425 Oldsmobile Rocket V8 engine. The engine has an HEI distributer, newer plugs and wires, fuel pump, oil filter, fuel filter, and air intake manifold. The engine has a Edelbrock 1407 manual choke carburetor and manual choke is installed. The engine features a chrome water neck, chrome valve covers, and chrome throttle kit. It also has a Edelbrock chrome air intake with a high performance green air filter. The air filter is about 4". My boyfriends says that the engine has a newer power booster that is about 5 years old. The radiator fluid sits a little low, but there are no leaks. Like I said the car has been sitting in our garage and now our driveway and I have never seen any oil marks on the concrete or any other fluid leaks. All the seals for fluids appear to be in good condition. The car does have a newer battery but again has been sitting unused for about 2 years, so may need to be charged. The car has really good compression and torque. My boyfriend believes that someone who owned the car before him re-bore the engine to give it more horsepower. He said that the engine on this Toronado seemed stronger and faster than that the other one he had owned, but he did not test or use a caliper to verify this. He said there is a small electrical drain. He believes that the little light under the dash stays on. The breaks on the front have been upgraded to disk breaks, but the back brakes are drum. There is a prop block & die adjuster in the engine to fine tune the breaks. He said when driving the breaks felt a little soft, but was not uncomfortable and felt safe driving it. The tires are older and probably need replaced soon. The car does need some body work, but overall is pretty intact. The doors shut good, but the driver side door is missing the handle and some of the hardware. Most of it if not all is still in the car on the seats. He also has some smaller parts that are wrapped in plastic wrap on the dash. The drivers side window is out but the glass for it is sitting in the backseat. He believes it may need the linkage device that connects the window to the door. The interior lights in the back are intact, but one is missing the plastic cover. The other one has the plastic cover but is missing half of it. It appears to have broken off at some point. The interior upholstery is in fairly good condition. There is some wear to the front seats; mainly the drivers side seat. The door on the drivers side also has some wear to the material. My boyfriend has painted this car black with a red racing stripe. It was originally a sky blue. The blue paint can be seen in some areas where the paint has worn away. My boyfriend painted because it had a fair amount of surface rust and rusted through in an area by a wheel well, so he just painted to stop it from rusting any further. I also wanted to mention that the windshield has two cracks. I have taken several pictures of this car, so please take a look for yourself. What you see is what you get. The car comes with a clear title and is signed by my boyfriend. It is an Illinois state title. In 1966 the Toronado was the car of the year. This is a great classic vintage car. I have never driven it myself, but I have ridden in it while by boyfriend drove. It was a lot of fun to hear the engine roar and feel the power the car had while sitting in the passengers seat. It definitely is a great car to own. We are moving to Florida however, and my boyfriend does not want to transport it there. This would be a great car for a collector or anyone that enjoys working on vintage automobiles. Buyer to arrange shipping or is for sale for local pick up only. If you are located close to me and would like to see the car before bidding, please contact me and I would be happy to arrange a time for you to come check it out. I will also be listing this locally through craigslist, so if it sells through craigslist I will end the auction at that time. Thank you for looking and good luck bidding!
