Vehicle Detail
1999 Porsche 911 (996) in need of a new home and some TLC. Car is currently in Houston, Texas. Black/Black Tiptronic (automatic) 105k miles. I did not have the VIN handy when creating this listing but I will provide it if requested. I am NOT interested in trades of any kind. Cash only. The good: Well, it is a 911 Porsche. New tires on rear. Front tires still very good. Air conditioning works well. Handles well and feels smooth on the highway. I have driven it from Kentucky to Texas and back a couple of times and have put about 12k miles on the car over the past 3 years. And for the past 2 years, up to about 5 months ago, was a daily driver of about 30 miles a day until I bought another car. With the exception of the items listed below, it really does seem to be a solid car. From about 15 feet away, the car looks great as you can see in the photos. I’m hesitant to use the photos because they do make the car look much better than I would give it credit for, but everyone should grade it on their own scale. The “less” good: Car has Kentucky “Rebuilt” title. Previous salvage title from Texas Needs brakes and rotors. Drivers door handle not operational from outside. I use the key in the door to automatically roll down the windows and reach in to open the door using the inside door handle. I would guess that it’s something very simple but I didn’t want to get into taking the door panel off. Leather seats could use some dye. The leather itself, is not really cracked, but the Texas heat on a black car with black interior has the seats looking a little wrinkled in spots. I think it needs left rear CV joint or replace axle. (noise coming from left rear when making sharp right turns) A small rattle coming from the front when going over bumps or rough road. (guessing it’s strut mount bearing) Runs okay but needs ignition coils & spark plugs. Chips and dings. Could use some touchup paint and a good buffing, (but looks great from 15 feet away) Aftermarket stereo doesn’t sound very good. I don’t think it’s wired properly. Previous body repair work is evident on rear of car. I’m trying to be as honest and realistic about the car as I can be. The car is definitely not a garage queen so hopefully that will help to set your expectations upfront. But, if the ignition coils, spark plugs, left rear axle shaft/CV joint, brakes and rotors were replaced, I would feel confident driving this car anywhere and at any speed. Although anyone who has the money is welcomed to buy this car, I think this car is best suited for someone who has both the interest and mechanical ability to work on the car him/herself. Used 996’s are really a great bargain for the DIY’er and also a blast to drive on the street as well as a track car.
