Vehicle Detail

Probably the greatest "Q Car" of them all !!! You are looking at what is undoubtedly one of the nicest Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 saloons available on the market today. This car is believed to have had just two long term owners, the first for approximately 20 years and the second for almost 25 years. This beautiful 6.3 has been driven 140,000 miles from new and is in absolutely perfect running order. It comes with an extensive history file including decades of invoices. Note: Current miles showing are just over 80,000, although a documented speedometer replacement was carried out 11/12/79 at 59,729 miles. I am also regularly using the car as it is such fun to drive, so the mileage will increase slightly while the car is being offered for sale. This impressive 6.3 is largely original, save for a top quality bare metal repaint performed by marque specialists Hatch & Sons at a cost of $12,000 in 1990 (invoices in file). The Moss Green paint still looks absolutely beautiful with only the slightest evidence of age and use. The completely original Cognac interior is in truly remarkable condition for its age. The leather has a beautiful patina and the cabin has a wonderfully luxurious, gently worn feel to it. Recent major service work by a 6.3 specialist included installation of a rebuilt steering box and the complete overhaul of the air suspension system. The air conditioning system has also been recently serviced and blows cold. Our Mercedes 6.3 runs and drives beautifully. It has excellent, factory specification compression and oil pressure. Everything works on this car, including the electric windows, lights, horns, wipers, sunroof - and even the clock, which keeps perfect time! The heating and cooling controls are in perfect working order, including the often troublesome heater vent levers which are in perfect condition and operate smoothly. Compression test results: coldRight bank # 1 (front) = 142 psi #2 = 146 psi #3 = 148 psi #4 = 148 psi Left bank # 1 (front) 140 psi #2 = 147 psi #3 = 141 psi #4 = 140 psiThis amazing car cruises effortlessly at very high speed, easily keeping up with modern traffic while wafting along in imperial style. The factory claimed a 6.3 second 0-60 time and a top speed of 142 MPH. This legendary performance made the 6.3 the fastest four door sedan in the world for more than two decades, before finally having that title wrested from its grasp by another S class Mercedes in 1992. This car is absolutely 100% rust free. It is as dry, straight and rust free a 6.3 as you are ever likely to see. There is not a grain of rust anywhere beneath the car. The front and rear bumpers were both recently re-chromed and look beautiful. The doors, bonnet and boot lid all exhibit factory perfect shut lines, and all close with a resounding clunk that is indicative of the ultra high build quality these cars are famous for. The engine runs quietly, idles smoothly and pulls like a train. This is a car that you could fly in and drive home in complete luxury and comfort. In terms of condition, it is at the upper end of what might be termed a 'very high quality driver'. Although not quite 'show condition', it would undoubtedly be welcomed at any concours event, whether marque specific or otherwise. It could easily be taken to the next condition level with a few very minor cosmetic improvements. In terms of mechanical performance, it is about as good as you are likely to find, at any price. Note: An original Becker radio is included in the sale. A later model Blaupunkt is currently installed. On March 10, 2017 another 6.3 that we recently performed service work on sold at the Gooding & Co auction at Amelia Island for $126,500. While admittedly that car was largely restored and in better condition than the Moss Green example on offer here, we feel that our car represents wonderful value and an outstanding investment at our asking price. Inspections are welcome and actively encouraged. Call (512) 288 8800 or email through the eBay system with any questions or to make an appointment to view. I have loads more photos that I could not include in the listing, including several showing the totally rust free under carriage. Email me and I will be glad to forward the additional images, or find them in the Cars for Sale section of the Classic Jaguar website. This vehicle is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty of any kind being offered. Clear, unencumbered title conveys to the new owner.
