To know more about the 400 SC and specifically the upgrades that occurred in 1998 and 1999, go here: http://www.lexusclub.co.uk/SC400hist.htm THIS IS A VERY INFORMATIVE SITE. Bottom line? If you truly want a 400SC, you want the '99 specifically. Vehicle Options and Description: 1999SC 4004.0 L V8 5-speed AT 32 v 290 hp 300 ft·lbf (410 N·m) @4000 rpm. 0 60 in 6.3 seconds. It has been continuously driven since new. The miles are low because I lived close to work (about 7,200 highway miles a year or so during my ownership). I love the car and always thought I would keep it ... then we adopted two English Mastiff's. The car is no longer practical for my needs. I clearly needed an SUV. That is the only reason I am selling it. I could keep it, but it has always been under cover and I simply have nowhere to safely put it. It needs to go to an enthusiast that can continue to maintain and protect it as I have. I met someone that dealer maintained his SC and had 500,000 miles on the car. I believe my car will continue to "soldier on" as well, as long as it continues to be well maintained. Obviously, I love the car. It's great. You will love it too. BUT, it is not perfect. I don't want to oversell it -I drove it every day for many years. The paint is original, it is good (see the pics) but it is not perfect. I suspect that if you chose to wet sand the car, the paint would be even better. -The car has a small door ding at 10 o'clock on the rear passenger wheel well. It is about half the size of a dime. You probably can't see it in the pics, but it is there. -Occasionally (maybe 2-3 times a year), the sub-woofer "crackles". If you turn the volume down low and then bring the volume back to normal, it always goes away. Why? No idea. -I included a picture of the emergency brake boot. As you can see, Lexus didn't make this out of leather and the synthetic vinyl is breaking down. -Low on the drivers side door, under the arm rest, there are 4 small puncture's/depressions in the vinyl (my guess from a dog paw). You won't notice it, but you should know they are there (see pic). -This model suffers from the power steering pump whining on start up in cold weather (after it warms up, it goes away). This car is no different. Further, you should know I refill a small amount of power steering fluid annually (couple of ounces or so). -There are no visible leaks under the car. -My guess is that within the next 10,000 miles, my Michelin tires should be replaced. -My detailer cleaned the engine with some type of cleaner. It is burning off currently and is producing a smell. Why would I possibly tell you about any small issues/challenges the car has? Because if you are reading about this remotely, you NEED to know about the good aspects of the car AND the small challenges. It is the right thing to do. It is fair. It is honorable. It is what I would expect. IF you want to arrange for a report from the Lexus dealer on the car BEFORE the end of the auction, I will bring the car to the dealer for you. I have nothing to hide and I want you to be happy / satisfied as the new owner. If you want a fully optioned black on black 1999 SC, dealer maintained vehicle, this is the one you want. There aren't many, if any, all original survivors left. In fact, I haven't seen another '99 in this condition available for sale in many years. Of course, if they only made 905 ... well no surprise they don't come up for sale. Good luck in the auction!
