Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my rare 1961 Austin Healey "Bugeye" Sprite. I have owned this car since 1970. 1961 was the 4th year for the "Bugeye" and is very rare and highly sought after. This is a numbers matching car with its original 948 cc engine with smooth case transmission which makes her that more rare and sought after. She is a project car but with her heritage and rarity she is well worth the time and effort. The car is selling this week to the highest bidder and is priced way, way, way below current market value. If you know vintage British cars you know how rare this car is and you know she is priced to sell. Mechanically: The car was running fine up until time that the restoration was begun. Engine does spin freely and with everything put back in place I believe she should start with not much work. The brakes wheel cylinders and hoses have been replaced, along with the master cylinder and slave cylinder. The total brake system was flushed and filled with fresh fluid. New gas tank, sending unit, fuel pump and Weber down draft two barrel carburetor. New starter switch, hood medallion, light lens , bulbs. New gas cap , muffler, tail pipe, spin on oil filter adaptor, wood steering wheel, wood shift knob with crest, wiper blades, heater knob. New battery and battery cables. Over $2,500.00 of new parts added in the last 90 days. Exterior: The car is remarkably straight but does need restoration. The front hood as you can see is in near perfect condition with no visible signs of repairs, light rust several places on car. Original front grill and original side curtains / door windows. Interior: Original dash with new wood steering wheel and original "Smith" brand gauges/need new glass. As seen in the photos the original seats, seat pans and rails come with the auction. Spare tire and jack come with the car. Underbody: I really can't get under the car but from what I see she looks pretty darn good for a nearly 60 year old car in my opinion. Yes the floors have some rust starting the photos. As you can seen in the photos she sits perfectly on the ground with no leaning or sagging issues. Top: Car comes with an original soft top frame only. Does need the plastic and rubber seals replaced in the side curtains, Come with new tonneau cover. On Dec-24-16 at 10:00:52 PST, seller added the following information: On Dec-26-16 at 06:14:51 PST, seller added the following information: These are answers to questions: Q: I saw a picture of the rust spot, can you tell me where the spot is and how big along with the condition of rest of the exterior of the car. Dec-24-16 A: Thank you for the question. The hood has rust on the seam over the wheels. around and on the front grill. On the body in the rear quarter panels both lower corners. One area under driver side floor panel and back corner in the floor of the trunk. Below windshield, both sides, lower body has rust. I'm sure I missed a spot, Over all in good condition for a 1961 car. thank you again for the question Happy bidding Dan A question about the type of rust. The car has surface rust and two small rusted thru location. There is a rusted thru spot in the floor pan driver side and back of the truck. Most of the other is surface with bubbled up paint and rust on the seams of the hood and truck. The photos show these spots. A new questions about the age of the pictures, These pictures were taken the day before I listed the car. All the parts I bought are installed. thanks DanOn Dec-26-16 at 15:54:22 PST, seller added the following information: I added more pictures to show the two rust spots under the car and the surface rust. Also pictures of added items on the car. Please let me know if you have any questions. thanks Dan
