Vehicle Detail
In 1973 Honda redefined what a showroom motocross bike could be with the magnificent Elsinore CR 250M. It was the best "off the showroom floor to the starting line" not just Japanese 250 bike, but any 250 motocross bike up to that point in time, period. The 1974 Honda CR 250M stood pat on the previous year offering, as the bare finished aluminum tank with the green center-stripe continued its reign among the field of competitors. For 1975 with all new models from their rivals, the engineers at Honda made a few subtle yet significant changes to what is still considered one of the greatest bikes of all time . Those revisions might very well make 1975's Honda 250 model, demarked as the M1, the best of the bunch. First they beefed up the rod, which had experienced some issues over the previous two years. Then to smooth out some of the "lightswitch" effect of the throttle, they improved the 7 port cylinder, and altered the tune port timing for a wider powerband. The shocks, in keeping with what was now standard issue for most bikes, were forward mounted; and the DID rims were lightened and strengthened. An upswept pipe like the factory bikes replaced the easily crushed down pipes of the past, and one point often missed is that this model was the first Honda motocross bike to wear Tahitian Red paint! The green stripe, the silver fenders were gone, replaced by white fenders, and the aluminum take now wore a Tahitian Red stripe, which would become Honda's color, associating the brand with RED even today. What you see here is an all original 1975 Honda CR 250 M1. This is original from every cotter pin, fastener, nut, clamp and hose; all the way down to the spotless DID rims still wearing the as delivered Bridgestone tires. This bike could be a reference model for CR 250 restorations, it is that intact. The bike starts right up, sounds crisp, runs great, stops great, and looks.....well the photos speak for themselves. This beauty wears the patina of a 42 year old, lightly ridden motocross bike. It is pretty amazing to behold. This is perfect for the man cave, or if you are a serious vintage rider, starting with a great bike makes for a better build for that full blow racer! Comes with a California title, and a bill of sale. NO RESERVE, so Merry Xmas my vintage motocross fiends!
