In 1979 Honda dropped this red rocket on the public. It looked as cool as a bike could look, red everywhere, and it had a motor that pumped out enough ponies to run at the front of the pack. The engineers at Honda designed this very forward thinking bike to use a 23" front wheel. A bigger wheel will travel over bumps and through ruts better than a 21" or 18" seemed to be the thought process. Well, needless to say you gotta steer these models with the throttle, which is one way to ride a bike. But it was the 23" front wheel that ultimately kept the 1979 Honda CR 125R from being an amazing handler, and not just a great straight-line red rocket. Needless to say, these bikes were a one year only design, but maybe the best looking dirt bike ever made. I got this beauty at an estate sale, the owner had done some restoration to the tank, new fenders, and some of the parts were in a box. I reassembled the bike with a NOS head (it was missing after disassembly by the previous owner), a Weisco pistons (standard bore), new Uni-filter, new NGK plug, carb and tanked drained and cleaned, gears and clutch are tight and fully functional, as are the brakes. The tires, front is the original claw action, the rear claw action was replaced at some point, but both tires are worthy of a few rides. I rode it up and down the street, with no issue, started, shifted, stopped, turned as it should. This bike appears to have not been ridden much, due to the original claw action, and the over tightness and cleanliness of the bike. That said, this bike has not been broken in since the top end rebuild, so you will have to do some dialing in (suspension set up and carb adjustments, chain adjustments, etc) for your elevation, level, and type of riding. This is a great bike, and a really nice start to a full on team Honda Works Replica, or a really cool vintage racer. Includes original sales brochure.
