Vehicle Detail
Hello, This is a listing for my 1974 Pontiac Trans Am 455. It is an original 455 car from the factory. It has the original block (see pics) I am not a dealer or a car flipper. Just a muscle car enthusiast. I need to sell this Trans Am to pay for a new work truck I just recently purchased. I already know I have much more money into this car than I can hope to get out, so I am listing this at what I believe to be wholesale price...the reserve is under 25k and this car compared to some of the other junk I see listed here is definitely going to be a great buy for someone. Well over 35k invested on my end but I know I need to sell it and have a more than reasonable reserve. I want to sell this car and I'm not going to keep relisting it at a ridiculous price like most on here. History: The car was originally delivered to Barton Oil Company in Spokane, WA. (have docs) It must have been a "company car". Sometime around 1977 a family friend in CA purchased the vehicle and basically used it a bit and then stored it for couple decades. Around 2007 he started to restore the car. He had Joe Sherman Racing Engines in Santa Ana, CA rebuild the motor. It put out 585lb/ft of touque 9@3700 rpm) and 478 HP @ 4900 rpm on the dyno (have docs). He never got things going and the rebuilt motor and car sat until 2014 when me and my brother purchased the vehicle and then restored it. We believe the 49k miles to be original miles. Once I had the car the whole car was torn down and rebuilt. As the rebuilt motor was never installed in the car, only ran on the dyno in 2007, we tore the whole motor down and replaced all the gaskets, etc. before restarting. It fired right up and the motor is a beast!! The Car: This is a original 455 Trans Am (I verified block matches VIN and pics attached) with auto trans that came in Buccaneer Red with Black interior. It has a high torque Joe Sherman motor build on the original 455 block. Edelbrock heads, intake and Carb. Although the block is original to the car, I do not have the original heads or intake. I am being conservative on my description of the car because I'm a car guy, not a flipper. This is an amazing high end driver. This is not a concourse car. Its a very clean, no rust, exceptional driver. More HP than you could ever use and handles on a dime. car is clean and no rust. The paint is good driver quality. I would rate it a 7 out of 10. There is a nick on the passenger front fender (see pics), and there is a section of some cloudy-ness on the top of the car...I think it just needs to be rubbed out. However zero rust on this car. Body: The whole car was taken apart. The body was taken down to metal and all rust was removed. The car was repainted in it's original factory Buccaneer Red. The front clip was fully removed and powder coated. Many of the front end parts were also powder coated. everything in the engine bay was either refurbished or replaced. The whole A/C system was refurbished and fixed. It works and blows cold! the body and paint was done in 2014. Sticker kit professionally installed about 1 month ago. Suspension: This car sits about 2 inches lower than stock due to the new Hotchkis suspension (leaf springs, front springs, tie rods, sway bars) and new Koni shocks all around. Car turns on a dime. handles really tight as you would expect Hotchkis suspension to. Car has SBCC disk brakes. Engine: original 455 rebuild by Joe Sherman in 2007 and only ran on Dyno. in 2014 we tore down the engine and replaced all gaskets and checked tolerances, etc. I can only say the motor is a beast. the amount of torque this thing puts is insane. You can't hardly get all the power the the road it just melts the tires if you slam the gas. Once it grabs you better be ready for blastoff. The motor is extremely strong.I have a couple videos...contact me if you want to see them. Interior: That is the original interior! we only replaced the carpet, headliner, package tray. That is one reason why we think the 49k miles is correct. Everything works except for the small clock on the speedo (typical). all the gauges work, A/C works, radio works. new speakers in back. headliner is tight. Issues: As mentioned, the paint is a 7 (conservative), couple small issues I already listed above; The windows probably need to be adjusted to make them seal better. New gaskets but water can get in there when you're washing it it you hit the top directly with the hose. Also the trunk gasket doesn't quite seal fully so that need to be adjusted as well. Everything in the interior works except for the small factory clock on the speedo. This car came equipped with safety seats that require the driver sea belt to be buckled in order to start the car. The new owner might want to disable that...sort of annoying. Basically there is too much for me to list here. Everything was touched on this car. It is a very solid driving car. The car is sold "as is" with no warranty, expressed or implied. It is the purchaser's responsibility to inspect the the car prior to sale to verify all information contained here within is correct. I have a clean CA title in hand. Please review the pictures. Please contact me if you have any questions, want to see the car in person, want me to take a certain picture, I'd be happy to take them for you. I want the new owner to be happy with the car. It won't disappoint. This is a great, complete and rust free original 455 Trans Am. A/C blows cold, brand new 3 inch exhaust, killer upgraded suspension, everything clean and rust free, new battery...on and on....oh it also includes a brand new $300 California Car Cover. Thank you to everyone that is bidding on my Trans Am so far and good luck. Someone sent a message asking what type of cam; my response got bounced back from your email thru ebay so I am not sure if you got my response. The answer is that the cam is a hydraulic flat tappet cam. --- 7-12-2016 -- I am relisting my T/A. Yes this car was listed about a month ago and I ended the auction early. It would take a serious reason for me to do something like that. The reason I did so was this; The family friend we originally purchased the car from had owned it since 1977. He had paid for a lot of the things but never put the car together and got it running. About 1 day before the auction was to end he called me and told me he wanted to buy the car back because he loved it so much and wanted it back now that it was put back together and finished. This man had been thru several years of very hard cancer treatments on top of everything else. I feel anyone in my position would do the same and end the auction and sell the car back to a family friend who had been battling a painful cancer....I wanted to see the guy happy. So thought that was it...I told him I had it on ebay and he had to be 100% sure he would buy it because I would have to end the auction early. So he says "yup 100% sure, I want it back!". So i say you got it....end the auction. Then 2 days later he calls me and says "well i just got super hyped on getting the car back but I don't have the money...I'm really sorry about that." So now I still have the car and am relisting it. I apologize to anyone interested before...but like I said, I think everyone would do the same if they were in my position. The car is relisted. I won't end it early and yes the reserve is still $22,000.00 Thank you and good luck. Sale included a new California Car cover (approx $300 new). Please contact if you have any questions. On Jul-13-16 at 14:20:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi, just created a video today to show that I have the car here thanks to some scammers making fake ads on other sites. Go to youtube and type this into the youtube search bar and the video will come up: avvl0oIeL1g My ad is legit. Someone on the internet has stolen my pics and created a fake ad. This is the only legitimate ad...this car is going to sell on here if it reaches the 22k reserve! Please contact me thru ebay if you want and additional info, pics, etc. Thanks for looking and bidding...good luck this is a great car! On Jul-14-16 at 11:45:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi, just uploaded 3 more videos with a lot more detail of the outside, interior and underneath shots! They go in order. Go to youtube and type each of these(one at a time) into the search bar and hit return and they should come up: --- HHqLhd96CFc 71Wh-rndFAo a2YOERDFrmY --- Thanks! On Jul-14-16 at 19:36:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Some people don't use youtube and can't see the videos. So I am adding some add'l pictures. There are some underneath photos and I will be taking and adding more pics tomorrow. Click HERE FOR PICTURES On Jul-15-16 at 07:43:40 PDT, seller added the following information: Update for bidders; I've blocked bidder 'gregserr' from further bidding and I will also submit to ebay to back out his bids but really doesn't matter because its way below reserve. He will not be bidding any further. He has sent me multiple messages only in spanish which I cannot understand. Then he keeps bidding. I don't speak spanish. Google translate doesn't work on his messages. this is a high dollar item, I'm not going to deal with someone who has 1 ebay purchase and also can't speak english or find a friend to help him or translate his own words into english. Nothing against spanish speakers but come on if you're trying to buy a car you need to make an effort to be able to talk to the seller. Thank you.On Jul-15-16 at 15:31:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Just added over 240+ NEW PICTURES! Please CLICK HERE TO SEE NEW PHOTOS On Jul-16-16 at 09:31:52 PDT, seller added the following information: First, THANK YOU to everyone who has emailed me, come to see the car in person or bid on the car. The winner will not be disappointed with the car. The pictures tell the story and the car is even better in person. I added two new photos to the link above. These are 2 photos of the engine bay from when we were rebuilding the car. You can see the quality of how we re-did everything....every nut and bolt...replaced all bushings...we even replaced the body bushings/trans bushing. Did we just put a new sway bar on? Yes but we also cleaned and powder coated everything on the front suspension as well...bought new Hotchkis end links, new poly bushings...new Koni shocks....Hotchkis springs front and rear. Thousands of dollars in parts. If anyone knows how good Hotchkis suspensions are then you will understand how much better than stock this car now drives and turns. It's low and tight, turns on a dime. there are dealer cars listed here on ebay that are in the high 30k to 40k for a comparable car....in my opinion...and I think my car is better because I did all the small stuff a dealer probably wouldn't bother to do. I have a total of $37k in the car and that is just my costs no any of the labor to build it/put together which was 8 months of work. How many of these cars have a working A/C unit? basically zero...the reason is because it typically costs about 3k to get a system replaced and working. Well I paid the 3k to get all the parts fixed or replaced...hoses, everything. Those Pontiac wheel centercaps are real NOS GM caps. I paid $400 for those and they came in a GM box. not re-pops. The whole interior was sound proofed with dynomat. This exhaust system has a nice deep bubble at idle but there is absolutely NO DRONE either at idle or at highway speeds. The exhaust is a new 3" stainless steel custom built unit. You can see the quality in the pictures. It is the best sounding exhaust I have ever had on a muscle car. No exhaust leaks solid. The headers are tight no exhaust leaks. When you spend the money and take time to do the little things right this is what you get. Engine: This engine is a beast. so much torque but is totally streetable. Starts every time. Very reliable. Runs on California 91 octane no problem. Also in CA this car is a 74 and you will never need to smog it. Any car 1975 and older does not need smog checks in CA. This engine would probably cost you 10k to have Joe Sherman build it for you today. I'm sure if you put slicks on this it would run 12's at the strip all day. These engines are known for torque and this one has 585 lb ft of torque. It has aluminum Edelbrock heads, Edelbrock intake and Edelbrock carb...yet is all fits under the stock hood and stock carb scoop...why? because I paid $300+ for the correct kit to lower teh carb scoop to correctly to fit with the hood when you close it. I hope the pictures and videos give you a good look at the quality of the car now. Still have reserve at $22k but I guess would be surprised if it only just hits that. Should go for more. If for some reason it doesn't hit $22k I'm just gonna keep it, too much car here to sell for anything less. $22k gives everyone a shot. I do need to pay for that new Ford F-150 Ecoboost you see in the background in some pics...Thanks again....as always contact me for any questions....THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AND BIDDING...GOOD LUCK!! On Jul-17-16 at 08:50:13 PDT, seller added the following information: RESERVE DROPPED TO $19,100!!!! I know I said 22k reserve but there is a lot of interest and I want to keep the interest at high as possible....SO NEXT BID AT $19,100 TAKES OFF RESERVE AND THE CAR WILL SELL!!!
