Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a VERY RARE ORIGINAL Factory H-code 351 Windsor powered 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 optioned with an Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, and Factory Air Conditioning!! This car while needing a full restoration is a ROCK SOLID STRAIGHT Southern Car and is an extremely worthy candidate with it's desirable option list and it's ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING 351W-2V engine!! This is an ORIGINAL H-code 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 (NOT A CLONE OR A TRIBUTE) that has spent it's entire life in Georgia hailing from Gordon, Ga originally. This car found it's way up to Atlanta; where it remains to this day. This car was a driver for about the 1st 10 years of it's life before being retired from it's daily driver duties to await a restoration. Well the restoration plans got sidetracked for reasons unknown and the Mach 1 ended up being parked in the garage as a future project. The car has been stored for many, many years and at 1st it was inside, then as time passed and priorities changed the Mach 1 eventually lost it's garage space and was relegated to outside storage. Fortunately, the mild climate here in Georgia spared this Mach 1 from the harsh elements and preserved it as you see here! This car was ordered at Gordon Motor Company in Gordon, Ga with an Atlanta 21 DSO in the VERY RARE S-code Medium Gold Metallic Hue with a Black Hood Stripe and a matching 3F code Ginger Mach 1 Comfortweave Bucket Seat Interior. It is one of only 334 1970 Mach 1's ordered in this not often seen and visually striking color/trim combination!! This Mach 1 was further spec'd out with the base H-code 351W-2V 250hp V-8 Engine with an FMX Automatic Transmission, and a 9 inch 3.00 geared conventional rear end! This '70 Mach 1 was well equipped and per the Deluxe Marti Report originally ordered as follows: 351W-2V 250hp V-8 Engine FMX Automatic Transmission3.00 geared 9 inch Conventional RearMedium Gold Metallic Exterior PaintGinger Mach 1 Comfortweave Bucket Seat InteriorBlack Hood Stripe E70-14 Wide Oval Belted White Sidewall TiresPower SteeringAir ConditioningAM RadioTinted Glass The Numbers Matching H-code 351W-2V Engine has been sitting for quite some time and is currently not running. The gas in the fuel tank is rotten and we have not attempted to get the engine running. We have pulled the plugs and filled the cylinders with marvel mystery oil as the motor did not want to turn when we put a battery in it. It did move, but did not spin freely so we decided it was best to let the motor sit with the Marvel Mystery oil in it and let it work its magic on it. I did verify the VIN number on the back of the block and it DOES MATCH the VIN on the car. It has been sitting for the better part of a quarter century and I believe it is best to plan on a complete rebuild. I do have the AC Compressor but the other under hood AC components are missing. All of the underdash AC parts are intact. The Transmission looks to be all original and complete with it's original kick-down assembly. The trans fluid is clean and not burnt, but after sitting as long it has; it certainly would be wise to go through it as well. The bullet proof 9 inch brings up the rear and is also the original rear end to the car. The car looks to have some of it's original Medium Gold paint, but has been spot painted in places and spot primed in others. It has had the left 1/4 replaced early in it's life with a NEW Ford 1/4 panel installed at the factory seams. The work was simple collision repair body work of the 70's and will need light attention to bring it up to par. The Body on the Mach 1 while certainly not perfect is actually very solid and it's Georgia roots show in this car's condition. The Hood needs a little work, but is a solid piece, while the Trunk Lid, Fenders, Doors, and 1/4's are all very decent on the car. The Floors, Frame Rails, Rockers, etc. are also all ROCK solid on this car. The only real rust to speak of on the car is in the trunk floor area. While this car was stored it ended up with some squirrels getting into the trunk area and as a result there is some rust in the trunk floors and drop area. There is the slightest bit of rust in the very lower 1/4 panel just behind the rear wheel (see pics), but it is minimal and a very simple fix. There also is a touch of filler in the tail light panel under the tail lights that looks to have been done when the replaced the 1/4 panels. The car's Mach 1 Sport Lamp Grille was damaged and a NEW Grille with New Sport Lamp Covers has been installed as well as having New Headlight doors installed in it also. This is a very complete, very original car that is well optioned and a super solid platform to start with!! There is a small rusted area underneath the battery tray and it will need to be repaired and the tray replaced. The Floors, Rails and Torque Boxes are Dry and ROCK SOLID (see pics)!! A 1970 Mach 1 in this kind of shape is a RARE find today!! While certainly not a perfect car by any means, it is a Super Solid car to work with. The Ginger Comfortweave Mach 1 Bucket Seat Interior has been well cared for over the years and is in amazingly good condition. While it does show some minimal wear on it; it is for the most part very ORIGINAL and very serviceable just as it is. The car has retains it's original Rim Blow Steering wheel, Sports Console, Mach 1 Carpet, Tan Running Horse Floor Mats, High Back Bucket Seats, Woodgrain Instruments and Passenger side clock in it. The dash pad has a couple of cracks in it and the driver door panel has a little damage too but overall this is interior has survived the nearly 1/2 century since it rolled off the Metuchen assembly line with very little wear and tear. The car was originally equipped with and still retains it's ORIGINAL 14 x 7 inch steel wheels with Mach 1 Sports Wheel Covers which are sporting a nice set of Raised White Letter Radials Please be realistic in your expectations of this car as a 45+ year old project car that has been sitting for a very long time and needs a complete restoration to include body work, mechanical work, and cosmetic reconditioning. I do have a Shaker Hood that I can make available with this car at extra cost and a set of 15x7 Magnum 500 Wheels with brand new Raised White Letter Tires on them also available at extra cost. Please see the last 3 pictures to see the Car with the optional Shaker Hood assembly and Magnum 500 wheels as extra cost options available with this car. Overall this is a very decent original 1970 Mustang Mach 1 that is a super solid restoration candidate. This car is a Super Solid, Super Original, Numbers Matching restoration project. There are lots of picked over, rusted out carcasses out there; but decent do-able cars such as this that are not rusted to death do not come along very often. This car has a clean open title from the previous owner that is ready for transfer. If you have been looking for a Super Solid 1970 Mach 1 to restore then don't hesitate on this one; as is it may be some time before another suitable resto project such as this one comes along again!
