Vehicle Detail

1976 BMW R90/6, restored with some impressive upgrades. Nathan Mende of Boxerworks took my 1976 BMW R90/6 completely apart and did a front to back mechanical and cosmetic restoration; everything was made like new where practical! Details of Restoration: Stripped the frame, subframe, swingarm, centerstand, and battery box; powder coated all gloss black -- Beautiful! Original wheels were not good so we upgraded to Excel spoke rims and new tires; Installed and balanced new Bridgestone tires with new tubes. If any of you know, the brake system on 76 models were single front rotor. This is where Nathan of Boxerworks HIGHLY suggested installing a GS front end with dual rotors and this one upgrade made an incredible difference in brake feel and, in my opinion, a much safer ride. TRUE -- this is an upgrade and not original. I asked Nathan about that and he said someone could easily put back on the original forks if desired. Agree that it now makes the bike not true to original but I feel the safety of the bike by dual rotors more than makes up for that!! Engine: tore down to crank, measured the main bearings and found them at low end of tolerance. Installed new lower rod bearings, inspected pin bushings and found them at low end of tolerance. Inspected oil pump rotor clearance, and resealed cover. Inspected and reassembled cam and lifters with new cam chain and followers. Performed complete valve job with new guides. Installed new crankcase breather. Resealed entire motor. Selected like new clutch pressure plate and pressure ring, installed with new clutch friction disc. New MAC stainless steel headers were installed and new pair of stainless MAC mufflers. Carburetors were in great condition but I sent them off to Bing USA and had them completely rebuilt and tuned. Amazing response now. Choke was rebuilt and is smooth as glass. Dual spark plug upgrade done and bike is much more responsive. Transmission: Tore down and inspected all gears and shafts. Reassembled with all new bearings, springs, and seals. Final drive was disassembled and inspected and found in very excellent condition; then we reassembled and resealed it. Driveshaft was inspected as very good. New drive shaft boot installed. Speedo assembly was showing a lot of wear so we had it rebuilt by Palo Alto. Original 30,000 miles were maintained on Odometer and is accurate. The fenders, fuel tank, battery covers were painted with original Glazruit paint from Holt BMW, clear coated and hand pinstriped. Original paint was failed Red. So, in research, came across an accurate BMW color called Havana Gold was decided on. Awesome color and was painted by Pete in Brevard, NC. New tank emblems were installed. The original petcocks were rebuilt. The seat is New Old Stock found at Boxerworks. Brown side stand New mirrors, new footpeg rubbers, new cables, new rear and side red reflectors, new battery, new starter relay, NEW Valeo starter, new turn signals, new diode board, and much, much more. I have a lot of the original parts that are part of this deal as well as new parts that are back-ups to existing new parts installed. All original BMW parts were used and purchased from Bob's BMW or Max BMW. I like clean bikes and every inch of this bike has been addressed. I like to polish the front engine cover and that is near perfectly mirror-polished and clear coated. After restoration, I tried to ride the bike every couple of weeks to keep things up. Only ridden in dry weather and bike is parked in my 24/7 conditioned garage. Bike is always kept on a Battery Tender and a flick of the petcocks and jab at the starter switch and she fires up. Every time!! If you're near the Asheville, NC area and want to test ride, please pick a dry day and give me 24 hours notice to set everything up. Shipping is responsibility of the Buyer but do know I will help in any way to get the bike to a shipping service. I've dealt with a few of these bike shipping services and they have all been professionals and on-time, on budget. If you're close-by Asheville, I could deliver the bike to your door. $500 Paypal Deposit or Cash within 24 hours of winning bid. Payment in full at time of delivery. I have well over $12,000 in this bike with receipts from Boxerworks to back up the work described. I'm going to Auction the bike with a decent reserve and let you guys go at it. Please ask any questions and I'll try to respond as quickly as possible. Please do not bid if you are not prepared to follow-through with the purchase. Clear NC Title in hand and ready to sign over. Thanks for looking and good luck!!
