Vehicle Detail

Save this car! Ask for details before bidding and I will comply in a timely manner. Car has a clear Tennessee title. Here we have a stalled restoration project, a complete late model Corvair sedan. Purchased from a seller who purchased the car from Burt Chevrolet in Thorton Colorado in the late 1960's. A very unusual combination--Not a COPO or RPO but odd nonetheless. This is a red 1965 Corvair sedan ordered along with three others for the US Alpine Ski team in late 1964-65. All of these vehicles came equipped with the high performance Corsa (optional for lesser models) 140 horsepower engine, positraction rear end, radio delete, padded dash, fold down rear seat and 4 speed close ratio transmission. It has dealer installed seat belts for the front seat passengers. A Colorado car that made its way to Tennessee in the mid-1990's. The engine cranks but I have not heard it run, so this Corvair needs a thorough sorting. I have shifted through all the gears and the clutch operates as it should. The car has been thoroughly washed since these photos were taken, and all vermin, algae and moss are gone from the inside out to the exterior surfaces. The glass cleaned up nicely but is far from show quality. I began the rust neutralization process in the Fall and the sale comes with enough POR15 to cover the rear floors and seat area. The only collision damage I can find is at the rear edge of each rear fender. There is evidence of an amateur repair done years ago to the rear passenger side and it looks like repeated damage occurred AFTER that repair was performed. I've replaced the air intake cowl in front of the windshield since the photo was taken with a good used cowl with no rust. The interior is currently disassembled as you can see from the photos the front bucket seats currently sport rat-rod style "Indian blanket" seatcovers. You get the seatcovers with the car. Front bumper is on the car now. The tailight and tailight cove area will need to be tended to as I have had hit/miss success making the turn signals and taillights work. The chrome trim to surround the cove (all there but currently removed), along with all the wheel arch reveal trim and front cast trunk lock trim were taken off to assess the surface rust. The Good: Clear title ready to sign over. Very little damage to the fragile leaded area around the windshield and roof--best I've every seen on a late model project. Very few parking lot dings and only minor dents as mentioned. New proper loop molded carpet ready to install. New front trunk lock with key. Halogen high beam headlights, new high beam dipswitch, two dashboards and gloveboxes (couldn't decide on silver or black). All of the gauges, headlights, horns, windshield wipers and dome lamp work. The engine cranks with a brand new ignition key. Two new proper GM repro sideview mirrors. Windshield wiper blades are new. The previous owner is a mechanic and claims that the flywheel was replaced with the non-riveted style. I almost bought this car in 1996 and I can attest that the vehicle drove out quite nicely at that time. I only wished the owner could have been reasonable in his asking price then! As I have written before--SAVE THIS CAR! If you don't have talents in metal work, a donor sedan body could offer a good starting point to transfer everything from this car. The Bad: This car was parked outside since 1996. Assume a fair share of metal replacement on both rear quarters and most definitely the front left and right footwells. Clarks and many other vendors offer metal panels for late model Corvairs for very little money. You will need to source both exhaust U pipes and proper 140 Corsa mufflers. When you get the car running, it will most likely dispel all nearby fauna and possibly even some flora. The neighbors will want you to install the exhaust before running the car. Bonuses: The primary carbs were rebuilt the last time this car was registered and they look like they are ready to go as is. I also have a fresh battery in this car so I can show you the electrical system operates as Chevrolet intended. Extra steering box and column, extra front bumper, five driver-quality Monza wheelcovers riding on proper 13" wheels and serviceable Michelin X tires in the proper size. You can roll the car on these tires, but I would not recommend towing for hundreds of miles on these four wheels. The spare tire in the trunk appears to be the ORIGINAL SPARE, "Firestone gum-dipped" tire and holds air!!! I have replaced the original padded dash with a dash cap in the proper color. Also replaced front arm rests, added halogen headlights, and went through the electrical system to confirm there are no open shorts. I have no way to know if the gas gauge works, as I would assume the tank will need to be flushed or replaced to actually drive the car. The last three photos show what I hoped to do with the car. Alas, I have not the time or resources to do this car justice. You must arrange transport, preferably with a flatbed and winch as it is parked at the base of a steep driveway. For an additional charge, I will toss you the custom towbar which affixes to the holes of the front bumper brackets. I am located 20 minutes south of Nashville and easily accessed by both Interstate 65 and Interstate 24. Please do not bid if you do not know these cars or expect to drive off in the car with a little turning of a wrench! This is not a turnkey car. CHECK MY FEEDBACK AND BID WITH CONFIDENCE!On Feb-03-16 at 16:14:58 PST, seller added the following information: ADDED PICTURES THIS AFTERNOON. Oil was changed when the car was taken off the road. Dipstick still shows a full crankcase and clean. Also note the shots of the dashpad installed and further detail of the dent on the back passenger side. Thanks to everyone who has been looking!
