Up for auction is one of the most solid all original examples of a 1981 VW Rabbit Pickup Truck 1/2 Ton (Westmoreland), that I have ever come across, that has not been restored. It has the 1.6 diesel motor w/ 4spd manual. Original owner purchased this new in Tacoma , WA with this configuration. He was a tradesmen who needed to haul materials and needed the low end torque of the 4spd. The exterior paint (arguably the best color combo VW produced for the Caddy) and interior of this pickup are extremely clean (see photos). No signs of any touch ups, body work, etc. This pickup is mechanically sound. It starts, runs, and drives like new in all weather. A lot of time and effort have gone into maintaining this vehicle. Most recently (last month) it had new timing belt, new drive axle, alt. belt, valve cover gasket, and wheel bearings. All of the big maintenance (last several years) items have also been taken care of like the head gasket, rebuilding the injection pump, new injectors, glow plugs and relay (8 sec.), vacuum pump, various electrical switches, new exhaust, etc. I went back and added up the receipts from maintenance since 2003 and they total $10, 508. WOW!!! This does include the Kenwood CD/ iPhone/ Pandora player w/ four speaker Infinity speaker system or the Clifford Alarm system. Vehicle has been registered with 1980's WA plates. A major bonus for Washington residents. I will gladly assist with getting this classic to a nearby port or shipping pickup location. No disappointments here!
