One bid at $16,500.00 could win this bike. Garaged kept -- professionally maintained -- showroom condition -- never dropped; never down; no dents, dings, scrapes, scuffs or scratches. Carefully broken in according to the owner’s manual; i.e., kept below 7k RPM for the first 186 miles; kept below 9k until 621 miles; no full throttle acceleration first 621 miles; no extended periods at same RPM; frequent gear and throttle changes, etc. All of the break-in miles were conducted west of my home in Colorado Springs on curvy, hilly roads; ideally suited for breaking in the XR. The 600-mile service was performed by Pikes Peak Motorsports, the local BMW dealer in Colorado Springs, with no issues. Included 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty and BMW Roadside Assistance through July 11, 2018. I’ve owned over a dozen high-end bikes, including 10 BMWs. The XR is, by far, the finest, most thrilling bike I have ever owned and it’s one of the safest bikes on the road today. The suite of rider aids (lean angle sensors, traction control, ABS) and riding modes (Road, Rain, Dynamic, Dynamic Pro) are mind-boggling; all designed to let you have fun and keep you out of trouble every millisecond, seamlessly – all you do is point and shoot. The 999cc, 160 HP racing engine is extraordinarily responsive at any rev, in any gear; the gear shift assist pro (GSAP) makes clutch-less shifts (up or down) lightning “snick-snick” quick and the slipper clutch keeps the rear wheel from kicking out when you have to down shift quickly. For those seeking an all-day, exhilarating, upright, sport tourer/canyon carver, I don’t know of any better bike on the planet. Heard about handlebar vibrations in XRs? Not on this bike. The combination of HVMP bar ends (mounted inside the handgrips) + the OEM bar ends (mounted outside the handgrips as sliders) + the foam grip covers, have virtually eliminated the “buzz” both in the handlebars and the mirrors. The only bike I’ve ridden that was smoother was a Triumph Triple. This XR is a contender for one of the smoothest bikes on the road. How’s the mileage? In the first 1,000 miles I averaged 47 MPG. My best tank full was 51 MPG; my worst was 44 MPG and I compared the actual at-the-pump calculations against the computer; the results were the same. With a 5.2 gallon tank, you can easily ride 250 miles between fill-ups and I typically change gears between 5000-6000 RPM. There is so much useable torque and horsepower in the entire band I never find the need to wind it out to get the power I want. O.K., so why am I selling such a wonderful machine? On December 7th I am scheduled for surgery that will ground me for the next 18 months. I will truly miss this bike like no other bike I have ever owned and envy the lucky bidder who wins it.
