Vehicle Detail

1976 BMW 2002, completely restored! This is the one that brought BMW back on the car scene, the 2002 model, a spirited little sports sedan which became very popular and sold in large volumes. This particular model is the last of the series and came equipped with manual transmission, functional Behr AC and sunroof. I had the car for more than two years and put a lot of "blood, sweat and gears (and money)" in it in order to bring it back to its glory. Accordingly, it sustained a thorough restoration with no expenses spared. First of all, even though the original paint was still decent, I decided to give it a new one, but not just a basic job... It was stripped completely to bare metal, all rust spots repaired: floor pans, wheel wells, all usual suspect areas were addressed and are documented with pictures and movies. Since it was a Southern car, there was minimal corrosion, but now it is all gone. The paint process was a high dollar ($6000+) two-stage paint in the original “Granatrot Red” with a touch of metallic, a stunning color nicely complementing the Beige interior. After that, it was wet sanded, “cut and buff” performed to a “new car look”. Paint now is flawless and has a deep shine as seen in the pics. Interior benefited from a freshening up some time ago, it is very presentable and shows not tears and rips. Seat covers, carpet, dash, etc are in very good condition. It has newly installed vinyl headliner in the original factory White. Sunroof mechanism was rebuilt, has new crank and works pretty good, but sometimes it needs little help. From the mechanical standpoint, it has been taken care of at the “Beemer Clinic” in Henderson NC to the tune of $3000+ when it got lots of new parts and a lot of work performed: new Bilstein HD sport struts, protection tube, absorber, tower mount… fan belt, alternator brake drums, brake pads, cylinder, all brakes R&R new spark plugs, new valve cover gasket carburetor rebuilt new ignition contact set (points) re-torqued head bolts, adjust valves, replace plugs, adjust points, timing and calibration new fuel line, fuel filter, inlet lines and throttle spring new battery with new terminals new thermostat, new oil change, new coolant new gas tank new tires In addition to that, the Behr AC system was converted and recharged. It has no leaks and it blows ice-cold air, quite surprisingly for this vintage. New door weather-strippings are present. It performs very well: engine starts right away, exhibits adequate power, blows no smoke. The manual transmission shifts as it should with no problems at all. All dash gauges work: tachometer, speedo, etc… It is equipped with a Alpine sound system with CD changer, a little dated, but still functional. A newer rear carrier assembly (differential) was installed. Click here to see a video of the car. Actual miles are 105K and they are documented by a long list of receipts and paperwork. Previous owner, a lady from TN had it for 22 years and apparently was the second owner. What is left to the new owner is to rebuild the two sunvisors and reinstall the liner for the sunroof… I have a rebuilt sunroof frame and liner material. This is a very nice example of the last Bimmer before the introduction of the 3-series. Its condition, restoration work and collectability status recommends it as a #2+ quality car rated by Hagerty Price Guide between $29800 for #1 and $16800 for #2. Click here for evaluation.
