Vehicle Detail
Here we go again, every vehicle I list has to be listed again for non paying bidders, very frustrating, its not like they look at the vehicle and have second thoughts, they go through elaborate pick up and payment details on the phone and then back out by email, please do not be that guy. This 1962 Buick Special is not a 10 foot car it takes at least 20 for the paint and body to look shiny and dent free, now don't get me wrong there is no accident damage in it's history that is readily apparent or that I am aware of, the body is ripply with door dings and scratches, the top has some staining, deteriorating seams , and damaged canvas at the bottom from the extreme folding when it is down. The transmission doesn't want to stay in second gear on deceleration due to an unfortunate stick shift installation that has the geometry wrong, and on light throttle there is surging. But this is a great car, yesterday I went to Baltimore and back 120 miles in stop and go rush hour traffic, it is definitely harder to drive than a new Toyota, but for a 53 year old car it is hell for strong. I was told it has a rebuilt motor and transmission, having had the oil pan off , head off, and piston off my best guess is this motor has less than 10,000 miles on a complete rebuild, I had to have a cracked head repaired and new valves installed , bought off eBay I have owned it for 14 months (the loss of garage space forces the sale), in that time I have had the carb rebuilt at a professional shop that only does carburetors installed an electric choke, installed a petronix point eliminator kit, rebuilt distributor, new cap, plug wires, exhaust gaskets, and the baby moon hub caps the original hub caps are included. The tires, brakes, shocks and stereo also seem to have few miles, the car was a 50th anniversary gift and it appears every effort was made to make the car safe and enjoyable for the persons parents I bought it from. This is a running driving tagged and insured car that needs the bugs further worked out. I won the auction for 4800 and have put over 1500 dollars into it at this point, it breaks my heart to start it at this price have it realize only 4000 then have a buyer back out. When I say my loss is your gain it is not Havre de Grace hyperbole its the straight up truth. There is surface corrosion but it was sold as an Arizona car having worked on it extensively I can attest that it is a solid driving car, and to answer a question from the last auction yeah I think it will drive back to Arizona and make it under its own power, over 50 pounds of oil pressure going down the road and the temperature gauge stays on 190 all day long even in 90 degree weather. It gets a lot of attention and positive comments, it is not a modern self driving automobile it takes concentration and anticipation to drive a manual transmission car with drum brakes if this sounds like it could be you I don't think you will be disappointed at this project car price. thanks for looking good luck if you decide to bid, but remember a bid is supposed to be a binding contract not browsing. Okay I stand corrected they do indeed have second thoughts about bidding or buying. If it doesn't sell it's actually better. The car based on other 62 Base Specials Convertibles sold on Ebay in the last year and a half is worth substantially more, so I can fix the two major problems at little or no expense and try again, thanks for looking, and please do not bid because simple statistical analysis would indicate you will be ripping me off, or if you do bid do like everybody else that has and do not follow through. thanks again
