Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE In 1963 the chief engineer for the Pontiac division of General Motors was an innovative young designer named John DeLorean. When he designed the 63 tempest he wanted it to be more than just another compact car. The unique drive train setup consisted of a 2-speed rear transaxle in lieu of a traditional transmission that was coupled to the engine by a torque tube. The arrangement known as a “rope drive” virtually eliminated the transmission hump in the floor. The design was called “TempesTorque” and also used a small shift lever on the dash rather than a column or floor snifter. Another unique feature was the offering of a 195 cu in straight 4 cyl engine marketed as the “Trophy 4.” This amazing little engine has an incredible story of its own and produced 110 HP. This listing is for a 2 door tempest with the original “TempesTorque” transaxle, “Rope Drive” drive line and “Trophy 4” engine. It has been partially restored, has new floor pans in the front, new battery, new fuel pump, new tires and the engine starts and runs. As you can see in the picture the chrome and other parts come with the car as well an extra windshield. This is a great project car and will make a very unique and rare finished product when fully restored.
