Vehicle Detail

1962 Chevy Impala Sport Coupe Up for sale is a 53-year-old, bone-stock, all original, un-molested (right down to the original air cleaner) ‘survivor’ car that originally came out of storage in Georgia. Decades ago, it was repainted by another owner in its original, Chevy white color and is truly a ‘survivor car’. It is a ‘Sport-Coupe, but not a ‘Super-Sport’. It has a white exterior (‘Ermine White’ paint code 936) with a ‘Roman Red’ (paint code 923), Impala ‘Sport’ interior (albeit, shabby). It is powered by a 283 cu.in. V-8 with a 2-barrel Rochester carburetor and the transmission is the original Powerglide automatic. The car has about 97K miles on it and is not pristine, but makes a great, economical, Sunday-driver. My son drove the car for a few months some years ago. And, at the time we went through the auto; doing tires, brakes, fuel system, etc. to make it a dependable driver, we discovered the original exhaust headers had never been off the car as there were no gaskets behind them and the original factory exhaust tab-washers were still in place around the exhaust header nuts! As expected with an original, unrestored 53-year-old car, the engine did burn a bit of oil. From the time my son acquired another car, this original, ‘62 has been parked in a dry, steel, concrete-floored, storage barn. I started the engine annually for about 5 or 6 years after parking it, but it hasn’t run for about 12 years; and it is currently un-running. We kept the car with the intention of someday restoring it, but my son no longer has an interest in doing so. At the time we acquired the car, the passenger vent window glass had been broken and water had pooled beneath the passenger seat. We replaced the vent glass, but there remains a 4-5 inch or so diameter hole directly under the passenger-side seat and, ‘tin-worm’ evidence on about one square foot of the passenger side floor near the inner sill area. If I were restoring the car, I would replace the passenger side front floor pan near the seat & sill. The entire right-front floor replacement pan is about $67 from Rock Auto. The body is very solid and straight and the paint, although very well-worn and with what appear to be numerous, touched-up, gravel road paint chips, is presentable from 20 feet! All the chrome trim is present and in excellent condition. The chrome bumpers are very nice and would not need re-plating for a driver car. All the glass is sound with no breaks or cracks. Also, every bit of the stainless and trim is all there as well. The interior is entirely complete, though in need of replacement, and like the rest of the car, all bone-stock, Impala original - sporting the original Impala bench seat. My son has cloth seat covers over the worn originals. EXTRAS . . . Everything listed below goes along with the car and is INCLUDED IN THE SALE PRICE of the car. As the intent was to restore the car, over the years various parts were obtained as they came our way. The value of each item is shown in parentheses.
