NO RESERVE - Rare 72 Mercedes 350SL Convertible, Two Tops, 71K, 4.5 V8, First Year of Classic SL Body StyleRe-listing due to unreachable winning bidder. Serious bidders only, please; Ebay is not Craigslist. 71k original miles, 4.5 V8. As the link below explains, the value of the '72 350SL convertibles is steadily increasing. Hagerty's average value for a 1972 SL convertible in this condition and with this mileage is $19,500. This is from Hagerty.com:The first-year cars were dubbed 350SL in keeping with the model designation for Europe, despite actually carrying a 4.5-liter V-8 underhood. The first year 350SL's are particularly desirable; the engines are have higher compression and increased horsepower and the body has lots of chrome accents and bumpers that follow the trim and contours of the body; new for the 72 model year the SL was fitted with a fuel-injected V-8 featured an overhead cam and delivered 230 horsepower, with superior throttle response and MPG as well as being more reliable overall. The technological improvements after 1971 greatly increased the overall reliability of these great little Roadsters.https://www.hagerty.com/price-guide/1972-Mercedes~Benz-350SLMechanical: The 71k on the odometer is original, confirmed by my mechanic. The SL has always been regularly maintained by the dealer. The car is powerful, smooth and quiet, just a pleasure on the highway cruising along at 75. All the maintenance is up to date and the car is registered and on the road. The power windows all work well as do the wipers and horn. The a/c has not been retrofitted, it turns on the compressor but needs to be charged. The buttons for the climate control fan work intermittently. The engine has great pickup, the 4.5 V8 is powerful and quiet and the transmission shifts properly, on the highway she'll get 17-18 mpg. The mechanisms for both the soft top and hard top work properly, all handles and fittings included. Boot cover locks down firmly when top is down. If you're familiar with these cars the two multi-function levers for the two tops and boot cover are often broken or missing; this SL has both levers working properly, both lockdown nuts for each side and both handles for locking the top above the windshield. The earlier 1970's SL's had higher compression motors which put out impressive horsepower, the '72 model year is rated at 230 HP. I had a 1980 450SL a few years ago and it didn't come anywhere near the power and acceleration of this earlier model.Cosmetic: The car has always been garaged. The SL was repainted about 10 years ago and looks great. The soft convertible top was replaced at the same time as well with a genuine MB heavy duty top, color coded to the car with the same color and is still in great shape. The hardtop bolts down firmly and all the soft and hardtop levers and fasteners work easily, no wrestling to get the tops on and off. It's perfectly quiet inside on the highway with the windows up. The interior is in good condition; except for the driver's seat bolster area there are no rips or worn areas on the seats, door panels, carpet, console or rear section. The chrome bumpers and brightwork are in great shape, no dents, scratches, pitting or fading, they shine brilliantly. Everything lines up properly, the doors close easily and the hardtop comes off and bolts back on on properly, all the locking mechanisms function as they should. I bought this SL because of the low mileage and the fact that she's the most solid, rust free SL I could find. She's got a nice modern Ipod ready stereo. Selling both the 350SL and Gazelle due to finances. The SL was mainly driven by my wife.I reserve the right to end the auction early as the 350SL is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used many times in the past; they're professional, reliable and have great rates. Any questions feel free to email or call nine one four, 224, three two three zero. NO RESERVE auction, the winning bidder gets this classic European roadster which will only appreciate in value. -------------------------------------------- I am also considering sale of my 1929 Mercedes Gazelle Replica Convertible. Photos and details below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1929 Mercedes Gazelle Replica Convertible, Factory Built in 1988 Mercedes Gazelle Replica factory built by Gazelle in 1988 (not a kit) with 12,400 miles. Built on a Ford platform, it originally had a Ford drivetrain. It now has a professionally installed 1990 Nissan 240sx fuel injected 2.4 overhead cam engine and a 5 speed transmission, under 30k on drivetrain. The ECM (computer that controls the engine) is mounted under the dash and a modern blade fuse box installed under the hood. When the swap was done the engine got a high output electric fuel pump and the cooling system got a heavy duty electric fan. The fuel injected engine always starts right up with the turn of the key, no gas pedal necessary. When Nissan engine was installed it got a new timing belt, new injectors, water pump and valve cover gaskets. When my mechanic first saw the car he was impressed by the level of skill and that went into the engine and transmission swap, as some parts needed fabrication to do it right. Recent work includes complete brake system gone through, suspension (leaf springs, KYB shocks, all bushings, rack and pinion), exhaust, alternator and radiator. Before buying this one I test drove several Gazelle Replicas with both the VW and Ford motors and this one leaves them in the dust, probably the fastest Gazelle replica out there. The fuel injected Nissan engine starts easily and runs smooth and quiet, no leaks or noises from anywhere. Full canvas top, door canvas and side windows as well as the top down, quick zip up cover. Wood inlay dashboard and vintage style gauges, complete with nice Pioneer Ipod ready stereo. Always garage kept. Rare, performance oriented Gazelle open to best offer over $6000. Nine One Four-Two Two Four-Three Two Three Zero On Oct-10-15 at 15:32:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional notes regarding the Gazelle: Much work has been done to get the car completely roadworthy, including new brake hardware kits at each wheel, new wheel cylinders all around, new brake hoses and lines as well as shoes and drums. She got performance shocks all around and the entire front end was rebuilt, including the rag joint and all bushings and linkages. The steering is tight and precise and the car overall feels more like a 911 than a Gazelle. I had not planned on selling this car so I spared no expense getting her not just roadworthy but performance oriented. I've got 4 lug to 5 lug billet aluminum wheel adapters ($250 for the set on Ebay) and 18 inch chrome wheels and low profile tires on the car now. The original 14 inch spoke wheels and tires are included.
