Vehicle Detail
1964 Corvair Spyder, great condition daily driver. The paint is about what you would expect for a repaint about ten or so years ago. It is peeling in places and has dings and chips, (please look at pictures), but still looks good from 20 feet. The front removable cowl looks like the paint didn’t hold on too good and the louvers are rusty looking, If I was going to keep it I would get another cowl and replace it. It could use a repaint, or you could drive it and enjoy it as is and not worry about dings and scratches This Spyder is 100% useable as is.The trunk has surface rust only under the carpet and could be wire brushed and repainted to look like new. There is little rust in the normal places on the rest of the car, and no rust through. It was originally Palomar Red paint code 948 with black interior, (look at the photo of the data plate). It is now crocus yellow with white interior, seats and door panels from Clarks. From the pictures you can see that the interior is very nice no rips or tears. The carpet was put in by second owner who ran a carpet shop for homes and he put in gray indoor/outdoor carpet. The padded dash was also done about ten years ago, and has no cracks. It has front seat shoulder belts, but no rear seat belts. There are Clarks Repro door sills. The floors are solid, and it still has the factory under coating. The radio is an AM/FM Retro sound and when you turn it on it becomes digital, when off looks like the old dial type. It has a plug in glove box that for an iPod. There is a two speaker duo in front and two speakers inside the rear package tray behind the seat. The antenna is originally rear mounted, but is not the original antenna. The original engine was not with the car when I bought it, it had a 1966 110 HP engine. Since then I have put in a rebuilt engine consisting of: 1966 140 HP block, code RM. The bore is standard and It has a replacement 304 cam with a fail-safe gear and locking washer. New rings and bearings, rebuilt 180 HP heads done by Dave Binnie. Also has a 1966 Turbocharger and Carburetor, Turbo Serial # 41806, and Part # 3856709. It has an NOS pressure plate, a new clutch disc, throwout bearing and a Dale Style flywheel, done by Corvair Underground. It also has a new clutch cable and pulleys..The engine is strong, and will boost in 1st gear. The muffler is a Clarks Turbo Repro with NOS tailpipe extension. It has a front mounted under tank electric fuel pump with low oil pressure shut off switch, and a primer/off switch for starting and stopping engine, the original fuel pump and chrome lines are in the trunk if you want to go back. The axle bearings were redone about 2 years ago with new U joints. The differential is a 3:55 Positraction. There are new front and rear engine mounts. The transmission shifts easy and smoothly, It has an EICO quick shift kit. The engine has about 1000 miles on it since rebuild and is driven at least once a week. There is a new dual master cylinder with new hoses, steel lines and wheel cylinders. Brakes were replaced at the same time, along with new front wheel bearings, races and seals. There are new Delco Pleasurizer shocks in rear, and new Clarks Gabriel shocks in front. There are new rear transverse spring bolts and bushings and center cushion. It has new front stabilizer bushings. The tires are Firestone R185-80-13 whitewall and have between 9/32 and 10/32 tread. There is also a spare tire with about the same tread. The car itself has an NOS front and rear grill, NOS Spyder side emblems, NOS turbocharged rear emblem. Dual Bowtie side view mirrors. I also have NOS outside door handles that go with the car. This is a fairly good representative of a 1964 Spyder, the last of the Spyders. This is an old Collector car and there are no guarantees or warranties. If you are unsure about this car, you should have someone qualified to inspect it, as Corvairs are not like other Chevrolets. Car is sold as is where is Winning bidder has to arrange for pickup or transport. $500.00 deposit upon winning bid and Car will be released when paid in full.
