Vehicle Detail
She is twenty 29 years old and still less than 49,000 miles! This car took me more than 8 months to find, when I was looking for my Midlife Crisis car. I scoured cragslist/Hemmings/ebay and classifieds around the county to find this one car. I found her in northern Virginia, in a garage of a very nice house, under a cover and it was owned by an older gentleman. The previous owner's kept records on oil changes and service records, I have done the same. I will have owned her for 4 years this coming Oct. but I never have time to enjoy driving her. My wife doesn't get it, my kids are too young care, so I'm letting her go to someone who can appreciate this fine auto. It needs to be enjoyed, driven, or shown, not sit in my garage. Soft top is in great shape, clear windows and dark black top with no sign of fade. A/C blows cold. It tracks very straight while driving with zero pull when using the brakes. When applying the gas there is no smoke, no pings, no rattles, no noise other than the sound of a German made V8. It is quick off the line and goes through the gears perfectly. She tracks straight with no pull either to the left or right. This car drives as well as any new car if not better. When you close the doors you can hear the sound of quality, these cars are not light weight plastic and aluminum but chrome and steel. I have read numerous ads for 560SL's about how they are "The most desirable color combination." I can only say that this car's color combo is timeless, classic and catches most everyone's attention. Since I have owned this car, I have not put 1000 miles on it. As far as I can tell everything is running great, and has no smoke or leaking issues. The undercarriage looks in great condition. Using the Hagerty Classic Car (HCC) rating, in my opinion, I would say it is a solid #2, but very close to a #1. I am the third owner. The first owner leased then purchased the car, (this is why the CarFax says "Fleet, Rental and/or Lease Use." Before he moved to Santa Fe NM he sold it to the second owner. The second owner said never let it rain on the car, and I can say the same. It is stored in my temperature controlled garage under a cover, and is rarely driven. I only use one master mechanic to change the oil and tune up. I only use ethanol free gas (87 oct.) with octane boost, as well as Stabil gas treatment. ON 4/12/2004 THERE WAS A CLERICAL ERROR ON THE MILEAGE ENTERING AT THE BETHLEHEM, PA DMV. I have the records to show the mileage as I have stated. On March 27th 2006 the mileage was 45,323 this was at Knopf Automotive, a MB-Porsche-Audi dealership in Allentown Penn. Then on 01/09/07, 9 months later, the next record from Brown MB/Saab in Charlottesville Va stating the mileage was 46068 an 745 mile difference. The discrepancy on 10/03/2006 was a clerical error. In the photos I have noticed that the seats look very light in color, please know that they match the interior properly, the variance of color is from the camera flash used in the taking of the photos. There are some scratches on the boot area where the hard top sits, these are the largest of the scratches, they are in the photo collection. There are also 3 very small dings on the rear bumper (very, very hard to see.) And a small scratch above the passenger side headlight, hard to notice. Also, the spare tire rim is scratched up. These are the only issues I can find with the car. I am trying to be as upfront as possible about this car, but with being almost 29 years old there are always a few nicks. I would put this car against any on Ebay in quality, period. CAR FAX value on this 560SL is $760 over retail book value. These cars seem to be going up in value according to Hagerty Classic Car, (I had the link here, but Ebay made me remove it. *sigh*) Average asking price for a car of this type is $18,731.13 according to Hemming's Motor News.I have service records from Knopf from 11/91 through 3/06 then Brown takes over on 01/07 until 01/11 and in each of the service records the mileage is recorded. So there is a paper trail of the mileage. Comes with a car cover, roof rack, hard top and top cover.
