Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a VERY RARE 1970 Mercury Cyclone GT optioned with a 351C-2V Engine and an Automatic Transmission. This car is a good solid unrestored turn key driver just as it is, but would benefit greatly from a cosmetic restoration. This is an ORIGINAL 1970 Cyclone GT that has spent all of it's Tennessee and Georgia first cruising the streets of Harriman, TN as a very cool and stylish Mercury Muscle Cruiser! This car has been a good solid and dependable driver for many years. Once it's days as a Tennessee Cruiser were over; the Cyclone made it's way to Georgia and ended up being used sparingly as a secondary driver and cruise night car. This is a SOLID Southern car that is just waiting for the next Mercury Cyclone enthusiast to come along and restore this car to its former glory!! This car was a Stock order at Harriman Motor Company in Harriman, TN and originally ordered in the 2-code Light Ivy Yellow and complimented with a Medium Green Knitted Vinyl Bucket Seat Interior. This GT was further ordered with the standard H-code 351C-2V, C-4 Automatic Transmission, and a 2.75 conventional rear end!!! This '70 Cyclone GT was originally equipped with the following as per the Deluxe Marti Report: 351C-2V V-8 Engine C-4 Automatic Transmission2.75 Conventional RearLight Ivy Yellow Exterior PaintMedium Green Knitted Vinyl Bucket Seat InteriorF70-14 Belted Raised White Letter TiresAM RadioHideaway HeadlightsTone on Tone Paint Delete This Cyclone GT was ordered in a very unique and very rare Paint/Trim combination (1 of 77 per the Marti Report) of Light Ivy Yellow exterior paint with a very cool Medium Green Bucket Seat interior that really made for a pretty combination when new!! The H-code 351C-2V engine is original to the car and is pretty much all stock. It starts right up and runs GREAT. It idles nicely and sounds fantastic through it's dual exhaust with Flowmaster Mufflers. Engine has pretty much all of its stock components to include intake manifold, Air Cleaner with Snorkel and Exhaust Manifolds with the original heat shield and S-tube still on it. The C-4 Transmission shifts as it should and drops into all gears nicely without issue. The 2.75 geared conventional the rear end makes this a super nice highway cruiser, it too is original to the car. The car looks to have been painted twice; 1st a Metallic Gold and 2nd in the Medium Red you see on it today. It was nothing high end and appears to have been just your typical respray from back in the day. It is nicked and chipped now, while it looks ok from 20 feet or going down the road; the reality of it is that it is going to need paint at some point. But you can certainly drive it as it is and have a cool Cruiser at the Cruise Night! The Body on the Cyclone while certainly not perfect is actually pretty solid. The Fenders, Doors, and 1/4's are all in pretty decent shape on the car. Both the Hood and Trunk lid have a couple of spots of rust underneath; but both are easily repaired and would not require replacement. The Floors, Frame Rails, Rockers, etc. are all ROCK solid on this car. There is some rust in the battery apron area from a leaking battery. There is some minor bubbling on the lower right 1/4 panel, but nothing too bad. The trunk drop on the drivers side needs a little work, but the passenger side is very nice. There is some minor rust in the trunk area by the weather strip; but nothing too serious, but worth mentioning. While certainly not perfect; nor a rust free car by any means; the rust repair that does need to be done is very minor in comparison to most unrestored cars of this vintage especially when compared to so many of the projects you find from the North East and Rust Belt States. Being a lifelong resident of the south has to preserve this car so it could be a pretty straight forward cosmetic refurbishment when you are ready. In the meantime you cruise it just the way it is. The Knitted Vinyl Seat Interior is pretty much all there and with nearly 50 years worth of wear. While certainly not a perfect example the interior has all good serviceable/restorable pieces to work with. The Rim Blow Steering Wheel still works! The seats, dash and door panels will all have to be redone but are good solid pieces to work with. The original AM radio is missing and an aftermarket AM-FM Cassette Deck resides in its place. The lower dash is original and uncut. Please be realistic in your expectations of this car as a 45+ year old unrestored driver that will need cosmetics. The car is a complete and turn key driver as it is, but the brakes are manual drum and not the greatest. The tires have a lot of tread on them but are showing some age cracks on them. Overall this is a very complete and original Cyclone GT with its original born with drivetrain that is a solid old driver. Like any nearly 50 year old unrestored car that has been both a daily driver early on and a semi-regular driver now, please expect to do some tinkering on it before you would want to drive it cross country. It starts, idles, and runs nicely with no overheating issues even in our recent 90-95 degree days we have had. This is a cool what I call a "Rolling Resto" type car where you can actually drive and enjoy the car while you do the different cosmetic and mechanical upgrades as you go.
